my brand new mustang 3 has a problem with the volume control (not the master)
when i touch it the sound is muted and i cannot get any sound from the amp. as i am new to this amp. has anyone a solution or is something wrong with the amp.

would my moving of the volume knob (not the master) constitute an alteration to the preset and therefor i would need to save as a new preset? this may be my problem .

Sounds like something is wrong, mine has been rock solid. Can you return it for another!

The volume knob, and most of the other knobs on the amp, are 'soft' knobs. That is, they have no effect until you turn them (I assume when you say "touch" you actually mean "turn").

If your volume knob happens to be turned all the way to the left (anti-clockwise), ie to the 'silent' end of the volume scale, then as soon as you start turning it, the preset volume will go quiet - as the preset then starts taking its volume from the knob position.

If you turn the knob to the right (clockwise) from this point, the sound should increase again. Is this what happens for you? Or are you saying the amp stays completely muted regardless of how far to the right you turn this knob?

Once your amp has muted, does the sound come back if you change to another preset?

When you move the volume knob, you change the currently-active settings. So yes, you are altering the settings of whatever preset is currently 'loaded' but you aren't changing the underlying preset - only the active settings. This is completely fine and should work the way you want.

If you then want to save the new volume (or other settings) back into the preset, you need to explicitly "save" it. Otherwise, next time you turn the amp on or select that preset, it will revert to its original settings.

But you don't have to save the new preset for the volume change to take effect, if you just want to change things while playing without modifying what's stored in the preset.
