Greetings & Salutations, new to the Forum.
What better way to make an intro than with a question :P

Have a Mustang III (V1). Gigged it several times and overall, LOVE the amp.
Have tried a couple of dirt boxes (MXR Classic OD, Boss DS1) and a CryBaby Wah thru the effects loop.
When engaging a dirt box I have noticed that it seems to boost the Verbs and Modulation effects. Kind of strange. Sounds like the loop is placing the effects after those effects (after the amp and after the verbs and mods which I place after the amp).
Is there a way to configure the effects loop so analog dirt pedals and wah pedals are positioned before the amp?

Have browsed thru posts and haven't found anything directly related to this issue (if I did miss something that addresses this I apologize for being redundant).
Thanks for any help, suggestions, pontifications, similar experiences, work arounds etc...

Don't know the answer but I always put dirt and wah on the input with reverb/delay or mod in the loop.

Yes, that would def be the way for a Tube amp. Don't want to put dirt pedals thru the amp's input because I want to have "Boost" from them for thse times when you need just a little more. Like when the drummer and bass start laying it on thick and the DB level goes up a couple notches. Will get "clipping" if the boost is going thru the input. That's why I'm using the loop.
The Verb and mod effects I'm using are the one's already loaded into the amp's modelling. And I must say, they are impressively good ;)

on the V1 amps the effects loop position is:

instrument input --- PRE effects --- amp emulation --- post effects -- cab emulation -- effects loop -- speaker

and no, you can not change the FX loop placement on V1s. Normally the best spot to use pedals on V1s would be between your guitar and instrument input. The notable exception to use the fx-loop would be to use a looper pedal for example, or an EQ pedal, but for the rest, unless you want your pedal to act on everything (including cab emulation) the fx-loop might not be the best spot to use it.

Where is the loop in the V2 amps? I've heard it's different and I'm thinking of upgrading.

Hi vintagevibe,

We will be happy to assist. Please take a look at the link below for more information relating to the effects loop for the Fender® Mustang™ (V.2) amplifiers. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Well, this does present an issue with using stomps for boosting your signal. Do have to ask...
Why only place the loop after everything else, including the cabinet emulation? More practical to have the ability to place the loop anywhere in the chain. Especially if you want to either "clean boost" or "dirty boost" your signal via outboard pedals.

Here's a question that perhaps Fender can address:

Is there a safe db ratio in which you can drive the amp from the amplifier's input using analog stomp boxes without having a "clipping" issue... or worse, doing possible damage to the amplifier?

Hi,

With all due respect, I suggest you do a search in the forums, as Fender TSL already answered these questions in the past:

-fx loop will not be made movable for v1 amps (not possible)
-on the v2 the fx loops is placed differently, with an option to make it work as the V1 fx-loop (called "looper" mode) or the default mode (fx-loop placed after amp emulation but before POST effects)
-if the input signal is too strong it WILL clip, with horrible sounding results, but with no damage to the amp , I personally asked for an improvement to at least have an indication that the amp is clipping (flashing button lights?) but fender refused to comment on the suggestion.

Thanks for the input (pun intended).
K, don't go with outboard stomps with these amps. Wings might get "clipped" but, Wah pedals in the input should be A-O.K. 8)
That works.
Thanks for beaming in to the post.

There are actually many reports of people claiming that all kinds of pedals (particularly overdrive) work pretty well with the mustangs, just do not setup your pedal output level as you would do with a tube amp (maximizing level to saturate the tube amp input) as this will make the mustang clip, just adjust effect level to a middle level and you should be fine.

Hi Strat-Slinger,

We will be happy to assist. You should not be seeing any issues with using an analog pedal with your Fender® Mustang™ Amplifier. If you are experiencing any issues with clipping we would suggest turning down the level on your pedal, or on the effects selected inside the Preset configuration. Please let us know if we can assist further.
