Plugging my amp (Mustang 2 v2) into my computer would require me to move the amp. Is there any problem just buying either a 15 ft cable like this?

or an extension like this?

Thanks.

For connecting a Mustang using a long USB extension cable you really need one with a built-in booster if longer than 10'.

The reason is that FUSE will sometimes be unable to find the amp or lose the connect with cables w/o the booster.

Look for something like these:

I use a USB extension cable with my Mustang. It works perfectly, I don't have any problems with FUSE being unable to connect to the amp. I realise others experiences may vary.

Obviously an extension cable will cause more signal loss than using a longer cable in the first place. So if you're going to buy something, it would be better a USB cable the length you need rather than an extension cable. That will minimise the risk of weak-signal problems. (I did it with an extension cable because I happened to have one already).

If you do have any problems with the signal not getting through with a long cable, check the cable routing: make sure it's away from any mains cables, audio cables, RF cables, data cables (including the Mustang's footswitch cable), etc. Also keep it away from any other electrical equipment.

Just my personal experience:

I had my Mustang II hooked up with a 1' male to male (mini to regular) cable with a 10' extension and it worked fine.

I shuffeled things around a bit in my studio when I bought a Bronco 40 and put it where the Mustang was. A 7' and 10' regular USB cables wouldn't get enough signal to the computer so I bought 15' cable with booster and all has work well since.

BTW. I would advise using a short 1'- 3' cable at the amp and wrapping it around the amp's handle to act as a "break-away" to lessen the chance of a broken USB socket on the amp.
---
Keeping the cables separated from all the speaker/inst./phono/mic/midi cables would be next to impossible in my studio. The only thing I do is keep all those cables away from AC power cables - which is a task in it's self.

I "roll my own" AC power extension cables using this stuff and metal boxes:

to feed small power strips.

I believe 15 feet is the maximum total length for USB without the use of an active USB extension cable, p90sdude. You exceeded that length by 2 feet. In my studio, I had to use a 20 foot Active USB cable to connect to the computer in the closet.

O.
