Has anyone ever turned their M4 past 3 on master volume with preset volume at 5 or 6?

I'm afraid if I do that I might shatter my windows and/or kill my dog. The M4 pushes air dudes.

#winning

P.S. I have v1 and have never had any fizz.

I have the Mustang V v1,, the loudest I have ever turned the Master volume is 6 and it was way too loud, my windows in my rooom were flexing and stuff fell off shelves, I use a home made cabinet with 4 Peavey 8's. only reason I didn't turn it up any louder was because I didn't want to blow my speakers, yeah man they get loud for sure

Yep! there's no shortage of power in the Mustangs, I had the M-4 last year and probably never had the Master past 4. I have the M-III V2 now and its crazy loud but still very controllable!

ya and of course I'm kidding and I know that those who have gigged with it surely have turned it up past 3...but in my apartment, seriously master volume on *2* (with preset volume on perhaps 5.5 to 7) is super duper loud...way too loud for my neighbors.

and I always have bass way down (all settings)...I'm frustrated because I need a practice space or stage to really see what it can do.

It's like I have a corvette and I've never taken it past 2nd gear! just for fun I'll turn it up a little for literally like 10 seconds (my neighbors know that if I turn it up it won't be for very long)....and if I put bass up to 5....the thing can rock bass too.

*especially* on *clean* tones.... deluxe reverb model, gain on only 2 or 3, EQ on 5 to 6, a touch of reverb.....dude I think that thing is giving me a pretty nice tone

Hi,
i don't know M 4 or M5 ..
perhaps compared to the Mustang 3 (I have the M3 V.2 and before I had M3 version 1) requires a reduction in the range of preset volumes for home use .. let's say below 5?
have you tried to see if it has good performance the same ?
an advantage that a digital amp as these should give us (compared to tube amps) is to be able to adjust the output level , acting on various stages, without having to put very loud to make it sound good ..

I agree! I have the v1 III, and even with the open back, it'll push some serious bass and low mids! I think I've wound the master up to about 4.5, and had to turn down, because it was way too loud.

I could feel it in my chest, and it was vibrating the floor, and my chair. I didn't pay any attention to the preset volume, but it was just the stock preset ( Bassman Drive) with an MXR Modified OD in front of it.

I mainly use it with my own default preset that I created. A warm clean, with a touch of '63 spring reverb, using the Bassman model. I love that punchy, warm Bassman clean with my MIA Strat! ( or my HH Blackface, or my Ibby Rg...)

Yeah, it's plenty loud.

I kind of regret buying the M4 V.2 instead of the M3, and at the same time I don't.
The M4 starts sounding good when you reach 3 on the master, but then it's pretty much too loud for playing in an apartment.
The thing is that the sweet sound of the M4 is - for me - noticably sweeter than the M3. =)

you need to use the preset volume to play in apartment. you are seeing it super loud with master on 2, right? and I bet you have your preset volumes way up at 7 or more, right?

if you do that, indeed the M4 jumps from literally no sound to super duper loud at master on 2 and then ridiculously loud with master at 3 to 4.

but if you put master even way up at 5 (!!!!), the individual preset volume thing really does work much more gradually and lets you dial it down to keep good tone at home volumes.

in other words, when I'm playing at night in my apartment, I put the preset volumes literally as low as 2 or 3...and then you can have good tone and it's quiet enough.

this is regardless of preset..I play loud-quiet-loud nirvana style and go from clean twin reverb to overdriven high gain stuff....master volume at 4 or 5 (sounds scary loud right?) but individual preset volume dialed down and it is very responsive and doesn't go from zero to ear bleeding loud at 2 like the master does when the preset volume is way up.

Hey!
Answering "Yes" to your questions. :)
I tried changing the volume ratios according to you specifications and it works. Thank you.

By the way, Nirvana - or rather Kurt Cobain - was the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. This also explains why I haven't bothered to begin learning scales until 20 years later.

I've got M IV and preset volumes around 6.. At home I've got master volume set up to around 3, 3.5 (partly to annoy my neighbors who wake me up early when they simply "have to" work and talk very loudly outside at 7 am, and to get lost in the music, besides my family doesn't mind me playing it loudly), at band sessions the master is around 4.5 (we've got a VERY loud drummer and, fortunately, practice in a semi-pro recording studio so the sound gets absorbed and doesn't bounce back much), at gigs usually around 5.5.

I have tried, for the heck of it, to put the master volume all the way up (while keeping preset volumes around 6 - so bare in mind it's still just 60% of what it can do, and I'm also pretty sure the "master" preset volume [in advanced amp settings] wasn't at 100% but just around 70%, meaning the total output is not even 60% of M's power) and I bet playing at that volume for 15 mins would damage your hearing, possibly permanently. I only tried that at the studio, wouldn't dare to try it anywhere else - except a gig if it was necessary of course, but I would definitely use ear plugs to protect my hearing.

This bad boy has plenty of juice and doesn't break up, the speakers work perfectly as well. I loved the fact that there was no trace of fizz even at louder volumes :)

Yah the mustangs got power that's for sure i got the MIII V1, the loudest i had it was 7 master and 7 preset and that was ear splitting.
I could feel the air being pushed out and the stuff on my shelves was moving from the vibrations.
With the extra 50 watts and another 12" speaker id say you'd have no problem causing permanent hearing damage.
