Just picked up the Mustang III (V2) and so far I really like this amp, Fender Cleans on some of the amps sound great and have plenty of low end punch and does sound and feel like a good tube amp... love the 65 Twin & 59 Bassman.

I had the Mustang IV (V1) last year and did enjoy it but didn't care for the size and weight it didn't have much of the fizz but it was there! The MIII V2 is very quiet with no fizz and I also like the XLR line outs, patch changes are just about seemless unlike the V1. For crunch I use the Brit 80's with the 4x12V cab and use the simulated overdrive pedal to push it over the top and it still cleans up great!

Love the size and weight of the 1x12 (36 lbs) I think Fender did a great job on these amps especially the upgrades to the V2! I will get to use it tonight with my band and really don't think I will have any Issues cutting the mix.

The more I play this amp with my band the more I love it, the speaker is definitely breaking in and it's sounding great. I've yet to play this amp past 4 on the Master volume and the sensitivity to touch is as good as some of the tube amps I have played, I only use 2 amp models and minimal fx so its a simple and clean setup for me... hopefully this is the last amp I will buy.

I still wish they made a better control board for the amp but I'm still happy with the 2 foot switches i use!

A better foot control board is desperately needed. Make it USB powered. PLEASE, FENDER!

I had a rig where the pedal was phantom powered, it was the absolute best, but it was really hard to find a replacement cable. It was a 7-pin MIDI cable - probably easy to find on the Internet now, but back then I just couldn't find one.

Hi jwoertz,

Thanks for your post. Can you add some details as to what your "wish list" would ideally be for the "pedal board" you are referring to? And while we cannot promise that any specific item will be implemented, we will definitely be happy to consider your thoughts and input.

Best Regards,

The original foot controller for my ADA MP1 (ADA MC1) had phantom power, and it was laid out so nice.

Image

When that one died, I ended up with a Digital Music Ground Control which did not have phantom power, and is not laid out as well (2 rows of buttons).

So glad I bought this amp its so much fun and easy to use and set up, I keep it simple and use just 3 amp models. 59 Bassman or 65 Deluxe Reverb for clean and JCM 800 for dirt with a little Reverb and delay. Once the levels are balanced at gig volumes I just get to play my guitar and enjoy the tones and for me its got the feel behind the notes.

Played an outside gig yesterday so it was a true test for the amp and it worked out great still had a nice full tone and has plenty of volume, I used the XLR out to the mixing board which I thought sounded great out of the mains. The tone is much more consistent than sticking a mic in front of the speaker, got lot of good compliments on the tone.

Couple of other guitarist used the amp and loved it and said it reacted well, so for me it passed the biggest test and so far no Issues either I think Fender did a great Job with there Mustang series.

Hi Fender guys-

A USB-powered foot controller would be wonderful. Add maybe like the same switch setup as the Mustang Floor unit, a screen, tuner and controller pedal. Make the switches silent and maybe have an input jack from the guitar and then an output jack to the amp. Just a smiple pass-trough. This will let the player plug in to the foot controller instead of having to go all the way back to the amp with the guitar cable. So going from the controller would be just a single USB cable and an audio cable.

Thanks for listening!

The problem with the Mustang is that the USB (and aux/phones) jacks are not good enough quality for daily use (and abuse).

A USB foot controller is a great idea but we'd all be griping after a month or two that it didn't work any more.

My assumption is that the existing foot controller communicates via a simple hi/lo pulse sequence. All we need for maximum flexibility is say, 16 generic buttons on a foot board and a way to load scripts via FUSE into the Mustang for what those buttons do. Then we connect the board via the 1/4" jack on the back.

That brings me to the other thing this amp sorely lacks... a scripting interface. We should be able to send a series of commands with one click to select preset, load effect, change amp, etc...

I do all this with my PC and my setup for racing sims. I have a box with 20 generic buttons and knobs. The sims I drive either allow direct mapping of functions to buttons or I can script a series of commands to run with a single button press... the worst case, I can use xpadder to act as the interface between buttons and game.

Hey if you can build a foot controller for the Mustang with even just 8 patch change commands, I'd buy it! Use a label machine, name the patches and be done with it! I would LOVE to see the 2 and 4 button foot switches combined into one unit, too. Still plug both into the back but have the cable be both in one. Add a guitar pass-thru so the player can plug directly into the footswitch. Kinda like the guys do with the Roland Cube series. The Mustang amps....sound fantastic. But control for gigs is really lacking. I mean if you have all the foot switches hooked up, you can get by. But I find myself constantly compromising, choosing between controlling one effect or another, giving up something in return.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your amp. I used mine (M III) at an outdoor gig last weekend and it sounded really, really great. The louder it got, the better it sounded. I couldn't believe how good warm and tube-like it sounded.

yeah this amp sounds great a louder volumes, my stage master volume was no higher than 4. The speaker is breaking in nicely the stiffness is starting to go away!
