I am seriously considering in upgrading from the Mustang 2 (v.1) to the "new" Mustang 3 (v.2) and was interested in an article that I read where someone had stated that they have both a "4 button foot switch" and a "2 button foot switch"
connected to their Mustang 3 (v.2) amp which gives them the equivalent of having a "6 button foot switch" !! My question <> Is this really possible and , if so, just how would you make the connections ? If this is possible then I would certainly be more than happy to purchase the extra foot switch required when buying the amp. Thanks in advance for any information you may wish to post regarding this query.

There are two sets of jacks on the back of the amp for the foot switches, one for the 2 button, and one for the 4. Just plug them into the appropriately labelled jacks and you're good to go.

Thanks for the reply , was checking out a demo of the Mustang 3 v.2 (after my posting on here) and saw the two input jacks you mentioned. So , I'm guessing it is possible to program the 2 and 4 button switches to give 6 different presets to select from while playing ?? This is really cool and would be all I'd need for the type of music I'll be playing.

Hi Newfiebro,
no, unfortunately, in quick access mode you can select up to 3 preset QA1 - QA2 - QA3 for a quick access, or up to 2 preset QA1 - QA2 if you use the 2 buttons switch in quick access mode... but QA1 and QA2 are shared .. has no utility use both pedals in quick access mode.
you can't have a 4th , 5th quick access preset not to mention a 6th QA because the first switch on the 4 buttons pedal is just a mode selector for 3 modes, or can activate the tuner if you keep for a few seconds the pressure on it.

Had been requested by several users a firmware update in order to have the fourth and fifth QA taking advantage of the combination of both pedals in quick access mode but was not accepted for now.

Here's some documentation on the 2 pedals. While you can't have 6 QA's, you can use the pedals together to get more options. See below....

Mustang III 2-button Footswitch Instructions

Connect a 2-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control.

Use the Utility menus to assign one of the following functions to the 2-button footswitch:

• Select presets (up/down)
• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2)
• Bypass effects (various combinations)
• Set TAP interval

1. Press the UTIL button on the top of the amplifier to enter the Utility menu

2. Press the UTIL button 3 more times until the display reads 2-Btn Ftsw Mode. If you pass it by accident, just keep pressing UTIL until it comes around again

3. The footswitch will be set to Down/Up (default setting)

4. Turn the DATA WHEEL until the desired footswitch function is selected

5. Once the desired function is selected, press EXIT. The last thing you chose will stay.

These are the available functions:

a. Down/Up - choose this function if you'd like to simply scroll up and down through the presets. This allows you to scroll through all 100 presets in a linear fashion (in other words, you can't skip from preset 01 to preset 10 without pressing the Up button 9 times or the Down button 91 times).

b. QA1/QA2 - choose this function if you'd like to use the pedal to switch between 2 Quick Access presets of your choosing. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

c. Stomp/Mod - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn a modulation effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

d. Stomp/Delay - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the delay effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

e. Stomp/Reverb - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to turn the reverb effect for the selected preset on and off. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

f. Stomp/Tap - choose this option if you'd like button 1 to turn a stomp box for the selected preset on and off, and button 2 to set delay time or modulation rate settings for the selected preset by rhythmically pressing button 2. You will not be able to scroll through the rest of the presets using the pedal if you choose this option.

 NOTE: You might wonder why there are 3 Quick Access slots when there are only 2 buttons on the footswitch. That's where the optional 4-button footswitch comes in. You can use it by itself to get similar options to the 2-button footswitch, but with a little more flexibility:

4-Button Footswitching options

Connect a 4-button footswitch to your Mustang amplifier to enable remote multi-function foot control. The footswitch display and LEDs show you some of the same information as the amplifier screen, so you can, for example, tune your guitar and select presets by watching the footswitch without ever looking at the screen onboard the Mustang III!

• Select Quick Access presets (QA1/QA2/QA3)
• Select presets (up/down/bank)
• Bypass effects
• Activate the Tuner

You can also use the 2-button and 4-button footswitches together to gain access to more than a dozen footswitch options:

6-Button Footswitching options

Plug both a 4-button and a 2-button footswitch into your Mustang amplifier to expand your remote control options. By assigning different functions to each footswitch you can create more than a dozen different foot control combinations.

For example, you could assign Quick Access presets to the 4-button footswitch and Up/Down presets to the 2-button footswitch. Or you could bypass effects with the 4-button footswitch and select presets with the 2-button footswitch.

Thanks "strings 10927" and "Dimitri" for your postings regarding the use of a foot switch (or two). Have been looking on internet but didn't see any information as good as this. Your information is greatly appreciated.

You would THINK there would be five presets with the two footswitches connected....... (come on, Fender!)

+1
by the way... i would like local settings (min and max value) for EXP-1 Volume pedal ... not just a global setting for all presets..

Have a Mustang 3 v.2 amp on order plus the optional "4 button foot switch". Could have taken the amp that was on the floor (demo) but prefer receiving products "new and in a sealed carton" if at all possible so will probably be getting amp and f/s in a week or so. Stay tuned 'cause I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions later. :) In the mean time "Thanks" once again to all of you for the great information you have posted on the forum.

Congratulations - you will love it. I just went back to the Mustang III v2 from a BOSS GT-100 and Zoom G5. That's how good it is.....

Thanks so much for this post. Even after reading the manual on the pedal use several times I never understood the choices as well as after I read this post by you. Now I see how the 2 button switch can be used. The manual left me just confused.

If you're looking to increase the number of preset options at your toe-tips, you could always go low tech. Simply save all the different presets you want to use in a block starting with 00 and going forward. Place them in whatever order makes most sense to you. Then, simply use your 4 button f-switch in up/down scroll mode to choose whichever one you need at the moment. Not as convenient as quick access, I know- but you'll be able to use more than 3!

Personally, I prefer to have the default 00 preset as a basic clean tone with just light reverb. Then I can add layers to it from there. I'm a pedal guy, but you can also select up to 4 different effects to add to your preset- and have them default to off. Then just use the footswitch to turn them on and off as needed. That alone could squeeze a bunch of different sounds out of a single preset!
