I can connect my GT-100 via 4CM to the Mustang 3 v2 and it sounds fine through the speaker but the line out is clipping. I've got the line out level down to 5 and my PC interface is not anywhere near clipping. Can anyone explain to me why the line out would clip but from the speaker everything is clean?

If I move the GT's output level from +4db where I usually have it with used with tube amps to -10db and turn the patch level down, almost off, it doesn't seem to clip but then the signal to the amp and what I hear from the speaker is thin. Why wouldn't what I hear from the Mustang's speaker be very similar what what I hear from the line out? Or more importantly why is the sound clipped from the line out? If I want to gig with this setup I'd prefer to go direct from the Mustang and not use a mic.

Thanks

It could be that the analogue power amp and speaker are smoothing and masking the clipping.

What do you mean by 'line out'? (as the Mustang amp doesn't actually have a socket marked 'line out'). Do you mean the fx send, the headphone output, or the USB output?

Again, please clarify what you mean by 'line out level' as the Mustang amp has nothing with this name. Do you mean the "USB gain" adjustment?

On the back of the amp there is a left and right XLR line out so you can send the signal direct to the mixer. Under utilites there is an option for line out boost. I have it set a 5%. I'm talking about a Mustang 3 ver 2 amp.

Ahh, apologies, I'm more familiar with the V1 amps. I keep forgetting the V2 amps have the extra XLR sockets.

What happens if you turn the line-out boost down to zero? If you're boosting it, even by 5%, over the internal signal that goes to the power amp/speaker, that could account for why one is clipping but not the other.

Also, you could try removing the GT-100 from the setup temporarily. Just play your guitar through the Mustang and to the XLR line-out. Adjust the levels on the amp until you're happy with the sound volume and quality, with no clipping.

Then reconnect the GT-100 and adjust its output level until you get the same overall volume with no clipping as you did without the GT-100.
