Hi,

A couple of days ago I was wiping a bit of dust off the top of my Mustang I amp when I noticed that the On/Off switch was loose. I could actually just lift the black plastic switch off.

I'm not sure how this happened, but my problem now is that I don't know how to rehouse the switch again properly. Just pushing it back in doesn't work.

There are two little metal connectors on the inside of the switch (which can actually be removed: http://s17.postimg.org/ak8gxnc67/image.jpg) but I can't work out how of if the external plastic part connects to these again.

Here's a couple more pics so you can see exactly what I mean:

Any help with this much appreciated,
Thanks.

Is your amp still under warranty (5 year)?

Hi. No, the amp is not under warranty. However, I don't really think that with such a minor problem it would require professional servicing. I mean, it's in fully working order apart from the on/off switch...

As nothing has actually broken off or been damaged, it's just a question of reattaching the plastic switch, which is probably not that difficult if you know what you are doing. As I don't, I just can't seem to work out how it goes back on properly.

I was hoping someone in the forum might know how to do this, perhaps due to having had the same problem. If so, I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how it's done.

Thanks

ahhh sorry to hear that. I don't know, but yeah maybe another user has had the same problem. Do you gig a lot with it? Wondering how it popped off in the first place.

To be honest I'm not sure how it happened, I just noticed it when I was wiping a bit of dust off. I can't remember knocking it or anything. I've never gigged with it, it's just my bedroom practice amp and I always have it in the same place. I thought it would be a simple case of pushing the plastic switch back in, but it just kind of stays loose no matter what I do. Really starting to bug me now :/.

If anyone else has had the same problem or knows how to fix this, please let me know.

Thanks

I never did fix this switch problem :/ but have carried on using the amp (just at home) as it can still be turned on and off if you're careful, although the plastic power switch is loose and would just fall out if I turned the amp upside down.

However, I'm now thinking of upgrading to a Mustang II and will probably be selling the Mustang I shortly. As such, I'd like to fix the switch problem, as the amp is in otherwise perfect condition.

So I'd like to ask again if anyone knows how I could fix this? Please see my first post in this thread for some pics of exactly what I mean.

Thanks for any help.

Looks like you need to remove the entire switch to figure out how it goes back together - but those metal clips look to have electrical contacts on the ends..
Maybe buy an identical switch.. but either way you'd need to take the amp apart.

If you look from the top of the rocker part, maybe the metal clips go in on each side and then into the switch housing. Meh.. might make it worse if it goes wrong, plus it is the mains switch.
Find a pic on the internet of someone opening up an MI or MII - I think I saw some once!

One other thing... if you've persuaded yourself to go to a Mustang II, then give yourself a big treat and go for a Mustang III

I recently went from II (v1) to III (v2) and the step is amazing...
- for the LED and instant edits, and the spacious sound out of that box

I'm not sure, but I believe you switch is broken and you will have to replace it. I would contact fender and order the part.

Sorry for the bad news,

Mike
