I just got a new fender mustang IV and have a few simple questions about it.

The first one is the preset feature. I want to use this amp for live performance and really like the sound of the 57 twin (at least I think it was. One of the 57s anyway). I want to be able to use this while playing clean then switch to distortion. Same preset, Just with distortion turned up. Obviously I can't run over to the amp and turn the gain all the way up. I guess I could make A preset of both the default channel and the custom channel. How do you customize channels and store them in a way that would work to my advantage. I do have the 4 channel foot switch that came with the amp.

The second question was about my overdrive pedal. I use a fulldrive fulltone pedal and I hooked it up on a clean channel just running my guitar through it straight into the instrument input but it was either way too much feed back or it just sounded really washed out and distant. How would I hook this up using the effects loop?

How do you customize channels

Creating/saving custom presets is covered in the advanced users manual for your amp and the FUSE manual, so I won't repeat here. Both manuals can be downloaded from the Fender website, if you don't have them already:

There are at least three ways you can do this, corresponding to the three modes of the footswitch. You control the footswitch mode with the left footswitch button. (Another forum user, strings10927, has written an excellent guide to using the footswitch in general, eg see this topic: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=86894). Pick whichever of the following three ways works best for you.

With the footswitch in "quick access" mode, you can setup three presets with the different sounds you want, and assign each preset to one of the three "QA" buttons on the footswitch - they're labelled QA1, QA2 and QA3. Use the UTIL menu on the amp to assign the presets. Then pressing the appropriate footswitch button will select the assigned preset.

Or with the footswitch in "up/down" mode, you should setup the presets you want to switch between with adjacent preset numbers. Then you can step 'up' or 'down' one preset at a time to move from one sound to another.

In both the above cases, you create different presets for your different sounds. So for example, a clean sound with low gain on one preset, and a lead/distorted sound with higher gain or an overdrive effect on another preset.

The third option is to use the footswitch in 'stomp' mode. In this case, you setup one preset with whatever effects you want, eg overdrive. Then you use the footswitch buttons to turn the effects within that preset on or off. In this mode the footswitch doesn't move to different presets, it just controls which effects within the preset are active.
