I'm a newby on this board, and I apologize if this question is stale, but I have searched the index for similar posts and couldn't come up with anything:

I have just acquired a new Mustang IV v.1 amp, and though I am familiar with the effects knobs for mod, overdrive, reverb, and tonal controls, can someone explain in plain English the difference between volume and gain? Do these two knobs do the same thing? Why are there two, plus a master volume control (I know the master is always live, but why the other two?)

The gain does what any gain control does. The Volume controls how loud a preset will be compared to other saved presets. This setting will be saved as part of a preset. It works great to set up a louder solo preset.

The Master volume is your overall louder/quieter knob- it is NOT a part of the modelling like the other knobs are, and it's setting will NOT be saved when you save a preset. Because of this, it has very little effect on the TONE- that's all handled within the modelling.
