I bought a few cheap clone pedals recently and have been very happy with performance of both the pedals and the Mustang II being accepting of them. I got two overdrives, one a Fulltone OCD clone and the other a TS clone. I don't think i needed the TS clone because A/B-ing it with the "Greenbox" they're both pretty identical but my thinking is that it just adds more flexibility since i can only have two presets on the foot switch. The fulltone OCD clone works a little better with the amp IMO and also stacks better with the Muff clone. My next pedal is a Rat or a You Dirty Rat and then i think i might stop there... or I might not.

Let us know how you do with your pedal experimentation.

Fair warning: Pedals are addictive!!

I have an MIII, not a 1, but I've had good luck with pedals. As long as you remember that you're using a digital preamp- with an input limiter, and not a tube one you'll be fine. About the only thing you won't be able to do with yours is a pedal driven volume boost. ( the limiter will stop that going into the main input, and you don't have an fx loop.) That's okay, though- just set up a second preset with the volume turned up higher, it'll give you the same effect. Or use one of the onboard stomps.

I've used quite a few different pedals with mine- it's just easier for ME to fiddle with the knobs on a physical stomp box... Currently, I'm running an OCD into a Phase90, into a Boss Flanger. ( or maybe it's the flanger into the phaser... Can't remember) It's pretty neat, how differently the flanger behaves in front of the amp instead of into the loop. NOW it sounds the way I want it to!

I like the OCD for this amp, because set at unity, it still has a wide range of it's own distortion on tap. And you can change voices on it, too.

Sunday I set up my first actual saved preset with it- just the '59 Bassman, gain turned down to 10:00 or so, and a smidgen of '63 Fender spring reverb. That's now my 00 default. It's a nice midsy clean tone, and sounds good with the OCD.

I have a v1 and wanted a TubeScreamer clone, but did not like much the idea of a 30-50€ stomp da do only one job, so i ended with a zoom multistomp and my MIv1 likes hit very much! I have a farly good number of different overdrives now (Fender models with a MetalZone in front sing like a star, Big Muff really good with wah etc etc), a better auto wah and another lot of fx to have fun with.

So, YES stomp boxes works very will with MI!!!

+1

I have a Joyo Ultimate Drive which is supposedly an OCD clone and it plays very nice with my MII. I was hesitant to spend as much on a pedal as i did for the amp if i wasn't sure of how the amp would handle it but for $30 for the joyo, i figured what the heck. The toggle switch to change voices on it is also a great bonus with this amp. It also stacks really well with my muff clone. Using that along with the HiWatt model yields some nice Gilmour tones. Got some of the Solos from The Wall sounding great with this combo.
