Hi, I've heard great things about a user PITA's "empty" preset for FUSE, and having not been able to get a good clean tone from my Mustang 1, I decided to try it out.

Maybe I'm a bit rusty to using the amp to save settings, but I googled it, followed instructions, read the manual, and can't figure out what's going on.

I downloaded "emptymustang.fuse" and went through the Media Library to load it up. As soon as I loaded it, there was nothing, absolutely no input. (I had Logic Pro hooked up in the background to hear it), even the Tuner on FUSE wasn't picking anything up.

Also, when I tried the "import" function on it (the one that brings up the three checkboxes, it told me it wasn't compatible with my device. I found it under Mustang 1 though....and it still let me "OPEN" it.

I figured "maybe it's a preset you have to save to the amp for it to work." so I did. I saved it under 7 Red. Still nothing. When I switch to it, nothing. I hear a very faint static sound if I throw a gain plugin on it, and boost it +24 but that's it.

Can someone help? I want to try out the cleanest setting possible (for using as a base setting to model in Amplitube)

Thanks.

For some reason, the forums were giving me a TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES screen when I tried to submit this post all in one, but I guess splitting it in half worked...

Anyway, I'm on a Mac, with FUSE. PITA's empty preset isn't working on my Mustang 1. Thanks.

Also, when I use the USB input of the Mustang 1 amp directly into Logic, it's VERY quiet. I have to put a gain plugin on it to hear. Turning the master knobs doesn't do anything. Is that normal?

Up until now I've been going headphone jack > line in, and it's been working fine, but now I'm trying to figure how to get a cleaner sound.

I honestly don't hear the difference between headphone > line in VS Usb + gain(+12), are there any benefits to it? Like maybe it's higher quality when you push it or something....I don't know.

First, PITA's "empty" preset is a kloodge to begin with... I've tried it myself and although it gave a clean signal, the output was very low.

If your looking for the cleanest possible preset, Look for a "preamp for V1" in the on line library. Basically, it's a low gain Twin Reverb based preset with the cab simulation turned off (in the Advanced Amp section of FUSE).

As far as the low volume of the USB out of the Mustang, the USB volume is adjustable in the Advanced Amp section of FUSE. If you don't see it, you need to upgrade your version of FUSE to the latest version.

btw - kloodge is a little known slang term amongst old computer language programmers meaning: "a less than elegant (or out right ugly) solution to difficult problem".

Hey P90sdude, thanks! Preamp by Jedi2b seems to be nice and clean. Haven't found the USB volume setting, all I see in Advanced is

Noise Gate
-Threshold
-Depth

SAG (?????)
-Matched Knob

BIAS (?????)
-Knob from -50 to +50%

CABINET

What are SAG/BIAS and how do I update? Seems I have FUSE 2.0.1

Also, can the amp effects (chorus, reverb, phaser, etc) be faithfully replicated through Logic's plugins/stomp pedals, or are these specialized to the amp. I would like to be able to record completely clean and then be able to tweak settings during playback as well, but not sure if that's wise, or if I should just record in with the tone I like to start.

Also, Logic's Amp Designer VS Amplitube (LE), is there any real big difference?

Thanks again!

Hi Sy_B,

The USB Volume control can be accessed for the Fender® Mustang™ amps in the current version of Fender® FUSE™ in the Advanced Amp panel. See link below to download this current version. Or, you can control USB Gain on the amp by pressing/holding the Exit button on your amp and turning the channel Volume knob.

Bias and SAG are tube emulation behavior controls. It is best to experiment with them and listen to the difference in behavior (tone and drive, etc.) while you are adjusting them. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Hi, I just tried this tip, and now FUSE won't detect my amp. I made a thread here.

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=87982

Mac sees it, but not Fuse.

Thanks

Also, holding the exit button while turning the channel volume knob didn't do anything different than just turning the knob without holding exit. I figured that was cause my amp wasn't updated yet.
