Hi everyone. I'm a Telecaster owner and I'm very inclined into purchasing a Fender Mustang III. I play in both a metal and a rock band, both at a semi-professional level with a good amount of gigging at medium sized venues (for the most part).

I never actually owned an amp that could cut it with both my bands quite well and I've been relying on my old Frontman 212R to do double duty. But I just can't get a good Metal distortion out of it without spending absurd amounts of money on analog pedals, which is something I can't do at the moment. That was until I tried the Fender Mustang at a local store today. It totally blew me away! The distortion on that thing was amazing. It pleased me as much as ENGL or Line 6 amplifiers type of metal distortion, which is something I NEVER expected from a Mustang. The tone is just amazing to my ears, even though a lot of people might dislike it. And well, the price is very suitable to my current budget.

If you guys could help me in making an informed decision, that would be amazing. I live in Portugal and Mustangs are sold for approximately 300€ (and below) at our local stores. I have the option of buying a Mustang III V2 at a store for 300€ or I could buy a Mustang III V1 for 200€ from a guy I know. The thing is, I'm quite scared that the V1 could have (or come to develop) the obscene Fizz issue, which is something I wouldn't be able to admit on my rig. And my first question is: Has Fender fixed this issue with V2? Because if they have I would totally spend an extra 100€ to get a V2. Also, does the EXP-1 pedal work with the old amps? Because I just love the idea of intelligent pitch shifting + wah + volume control, it just floats my boat. And I'm not sure if the old amps can use the pedal and particularly these new effects.

And for my last question: Do the old amps continue to accompany the Fender Fuse software updates or will I get stuck on some old version of the amp software if I get a V1?

Thank you for your time guys. I'm really looking forward to get a Mustang amp. It just comes as a solution to all my trouble. Bless Fender haha.

I can address your second concern: I just updated the firmware on a used Mustang V v1 prior to logging in.

FWIW, I'm a big fan of my IV v1 and have owned Line 6 AxSys 212 and a variety of Vox modeling amps. My tube amp is a Top Hat Club Royale, so I'm a tone snob to a certain degree. I'm kinda interested in your other question, as well, though my original research suggests that while there may be different "amps" between the v1 and v2, and the tolex is different, the amps are equivalent in sound quality.

That said, the v2 head has XLR outputs w ground-lift...

Fender have made no official statement about this. However, those who have bought a V2 amp and commented on this forum, seem to be of the opinion that the issue is fixed with the new amps.

Yes the EXP-1 pedal works with both the V1 and V2 amps. Just as a caution, there do seem to be some quality issues with these pedals; I and others had to get replacements from Fender. I can't speak for others, but my replacement has since been trouble-free.

Not quite sure what you're planning, but just to point out that the EXP-1 can control one parameter at a time. You can easily change what that parameter is, it's stored as part of the preset so you could have two identical presets, just with a different setting for the EXP1 in each.

At the moment, new versions of FUSE continue to work with the V1 amps. For example, the current 2.7 versions of FUSE, which are ostensibly for the V2 amps, do also work with the V1 amps. Obviously we don't know if that will be the case with future versions.

I wasn't exactly planning on mashing all the effects together, as it might seem from my question. Otherwise, the effects on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K11jhpKBnY just really grabbed my attention (especially the pitchshifting at about 1:44) and I was wondering if there's anything on this video, aside from the new amp models, that V1 can't reproduce. Because those Pitchshifts just drive me crazy!

And thank you for the replies, it helped quite a bit! :)

Hi Out.Line!
the effect in that part of video is based on the Pitch shifter effect, changing in real time the pitch parameter assigned to Expression pedal.
That effect was included also in my precedent Mustang 3 Version1 .. but i have never control it by Expression pedal as a matter of fact i'm waiting the EXP-1 , and also 4 buttons switch for the new M3 Vers.2 in these days..

(on the contrary the effect in the precedent half minute of the video is the Diatonic pitch shifter, a.k.a. harmonizer (normal tone + 1 voice) and it is included in Version 2.)
In version 1 the pitch parameter went from 1 to 10 in steps of 0.1 as most common fender parameters) but in Version 2 there is a more proper "scale" at glance.. from -24 to +24 semitones in steps of 0.2 (1/5 of semitone).

I think it is important to you to know that in version 2 is now possible to set the level of effect really 100% wet and 0% dry/direct..
so you can hear (as in the video i guess) just the shifted tone and silence completely the normal tone. In the Version 1 instead a portion of direct signal remained in the mix..
