I use my Mustang Floor mostly at church into a PA with my strat. Some days, though, I play my acoustic electric. I haven't used the Floor with the acoustic electric yet, but think it might be helpful to have the Floor set up with 5 presets for the acoustic guitar, so that I could vary the sound easily -- most of the time I would want the sound to come through uncolored, but at other times I could add some chorus or reverb, for example on particular songs.

My question is whether there is best starting place. Is it to set the amp on the Floor as a studio pre-amp, turn the amp setting off altogether, or something else?

Thanks,
Ken

How do you connect the acoustic now?

Is it straight to the FOH board?

If that's so, the Studio preamp is an excellent place to start.

In my case, I've recently cut a whole album solely using the MF's Studio preamp with an 5-string, active Fender Deluxe V bass. And no, I'm NOT the bass player that played in the album. I just don't think that low! ;)

Thanks.

Right now I connect my Taylor 410ce to the PA through what I would guess is probably a direct box, although I am not really sure what a direct box does and it has no controls that affect the signal from the guitar to the board -- The box is mostly used for monitor purposes as far as i can tell. The guitar sounds really good straight to the PA (through the box, if that is doing anything), but there are times when I could see that it would be nice to add some chorus, or reverb, or other effects, which is what I would be using the Floor for.

I will play around with the preamp and see what happens. I assume that is better than setting the preset to have the amp off, correct?

It simply converts signals to an appropriate level for sending "direct" to a PA input. That could be boosting a microphone-level signal, or acting as a 'soak' for a power-amplifier output signal, etc. Also a DI box usually has a balanced output to preserve signal quality, and can isolate the equipment connected to its input from any phantom power supply coming from the PA. Some DI boxes have additional features, such as making a directly-connected guitar signal sound as though it's actually a conventionally-miked guitar amp.

Hi Ovangol2,

We would recommend that you use the Studio Preamp as your amp modelling for your Fender® Mustang™ Floor in conjunction with your Acoustic guitar. If you are using the Fender Mustang Floor, there will no longer be a need to use a DI box, because you can use the XLR outputs and go directly to your PA. Please let us know if we can assist further.
