Looking for a good set of headphones which come close to the Celestion in my M3 v2. I currently have a decent set of Sennheiser headphones but they are on-ear and not over-ear. Was thinking of buying a decent Sennheiser which is over-ear but which one?

You're not going to find to find headphones that match/imitate a guitar amp speaker. Guitar amps aren't hifi, and even high end phones sound average out of a guitar amp; guitars and amp only deliver a narrow range of frequencies. Just find something comfortable.

I agree with Drubbing, honestly if I were getting some new headphones for my Mustang amp, I'd just get something in the $30-$40ish range that covers the ears. I like Panasonic or Sony.

Panasonic Model RP-HTX7-K1

Sony Model MDR-MA300

I keep making the silly mistake of tweaking presets late at night with the Sennheisers on and thinking "Yeah that's the ticket"

then the next day playing without the cans on than thinking. Egad what happened? that was the king of all presets lastnight.

I love Sony MDR7506 headphones for distorted guitar.

Yes I know but the problem is that those threads do not have any conclusion.

@rest: People here seem to prefer Sony, I'm not really a Sony person myself. Will look into the Sony's.

Really? Look again, here are the recommendations I see in those threads:

Shure SRH440
Audio Technica M50
SONY MDR-7506
Sennheiser HD280Pro
Silver Soncm SM 622M
Nady qh560
Shure SRH440
Sennheizer HD 280 Pro
AKG K270
Sony MDR7506
Silver Soncm SM-622M-V
Bose QC15
Nady QH560
Sony MDR-V600
Grados SR-80

If you're waiting for this forum to all come to an agreement on which single pair of headphones we as a group think are the best for a Mustang Amplifier, it's going to be a very long wait.

Read the question again. I was asking for a headphone which comes closest to the Celestion. The headsets which were pointed out in those threads are mentioned but the sound compared to the Celestion is never measured or reviewed. The question was very simple, not the one which is best used but the one which comes closest to. If I needed a random list of headsets to buy, quite honestly, I wouldn't be asking here, Google would do greatly in that department.

Read the answers again. You can't match an apple and an orange. You can't get a pair of headphones to 'match' a given speaker. You also aren't going to find info that helps you with something as subjective as a sound signature.

Headphones - even cheap ones - are hifi gear. Guitar amp speakers aren't. They are all pretty basic, and their freq range is limited by the narrow range put out by guitars.

If you went on the Home Depot forum looking for is a pair of scissors you can use to trim your hedges, you'd probably get some similar responses.

What you're being told is that there is no set of headphones on the face of this earth that sounds like what comes out of a 12" Celestion speaker.

I really do hope you can find something you're happy with, I've had lots of fun using headphones with my MIII (although I don't do it often). The effects sound great in 'phones.

I repeat once more, the one that comes closest to. A very specific question. Ofcourse a headset speaker cannot match a 12" speaker but it can approach it. Also I'm assuming that if I ask for scissors to trim the hedges the sales person won't try to sell me bolt cutters.

We know how specific your question is because you keep asking it. It's been answered. The answer you think you want does not exist.

I guess you won't get it til you go and listen to a bunch of headphones, and think you've found one that sounds like a Celestion. How you'll evaluate that, is beyond me.

Also, your Celestion is not a thing in isolation which produces a certain sound; it's part of an amp. The Mustang has differing models, EQs and Fx, all of which produce vastly different sounds, which I assume you use. Do you see how pointless your search is yet?

Get a pair of comfortable over ears. You're chasing something that isn't there.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Google away. Or, go into a music or hifi store and ask your question there, and see what happens.

I suppose you could study frequency response charts of all the headphones you could think of and try and match that as close as possible to the frequency response chart of the speaker in question, but all that gets tossed out the window when you consider that your plugging those cans into a hole that is voiced differently than that of the speaker and is stereo taboot which will alter things slightly.

If you're trying to match the tone between what your hear in your cans to what you hear when your not listening through cans I wish you the very best of luck. I tried for a while than just decided it was moot. Have to just find a middle ground or set up separate presets if need to have them tweaked perfectly for say going straight into a DAW or something.

OK I'll answer it the way you originally asked it and the way you're asking now:

NONE of the headphones available come close to the Celestion in your M3

One33Seven wrote:

Unless someone here on this forum has personally tested every single pair of headphones available on the market and compared them to this specific model amplifier, this is going to be impossible to answer.
