i placed an order for the Mustang V version 2 head and cab a month and a half ago and still waiting

is the extra 300$ worth the wait for the extra features ?
or should i grab this deal?

Grab the deal

I have heard some people say the v2's still have the fizz. IMO the fizz was blown out of proportion and it is very very subtle.

I have a mustang IV v1 and there is no situation where I haven't been the loudest by far.

They will both sound very very similar....I don't see a $300 justification between the two.

im' leaning towards the mustang 4 (almost a no brainer)

I like the portability of the 2x12 combo. But for you this depends on what you are using it for...

But my next purchase will be a port city pearl head and cab

LOL I was doubting about posting about it because it could start WW3, but what the heck.
Having experienced the fizz on my old M3 v1 I know how it sounds... I bought a M3 V2 a couple months ago and the other day, after tweaking some presets I discovered that under certain circumstances, the V2 ALSO have the fizz.

In the case of the V2 the fizz is really difficult to get (very precise presets), and a degree of magnitude less than V1 to the point that complete silence is required to perceive it. but is there :) but rest assured 95% of people will not be able to hear it, that subtle it is.

not sure I got the joke but yes, as consumers we are all judges.
I sold my V1 to a guy that can't be happier with it, In my case I'm very happy with the V2, but it does not make it perfect either.

No joke intended and I was not dissing you in any way shape or form. It is just every time I see the word fizz I think of fuzz and then I am reminded of this 60's skit on "Laugh In" or something called "here comes the judge" where in my head I am hearing here comes the fuzz. I thought it was Flip Wilson doing it and not Sammy Davis Jr. Too much information I know.

Anyway, the beat goes on, so please carry on.

LOL no problem, that is a complex chain of memories right there.

anyway, to answer the original question, a mustang 4 will sound bigger and better than the 3, just because it has two speakers. For that same reason it will also be more bulky and difficult to transport. So depending if you gig with it or not that might be worth considering.

The V2 has improved sounds and some new amp models but nothing you will sorelly miss IMO. I can assure you the fan crowd will not notice the difference at all 8)

I dunno, man. If it were me, I'd wait for the M5 half-stack....because it's a flippin half-stack! Those things ROCK. Hard! I have the v.1 of the M5 and it's my go-to amp for playing damned near anything at home. I have the M2, but it's sadly getting ignored with only the 24 presets and 1x12" speaker.

I wish I had the v.2 because I've played a M1 v.2 and I simply love the Orange OR50 amp model (British Colour).

Ref: Mustang IV V1 on sale vs paying $300 more for V2 M-V head+cab

Personally, I think the Mustang IV is a great amp and no reason not to buy one, if you're looking for a large-ish, powerful, loud amp. The M-V head+cab won't really be any louder, has the same features (just thinking M-IV to M-V, ignoring V1 vs V2), but is bigger/heavier (downside) although is a cool-looking half-stack (upside).

I suppose my question back to the OP is: what are your requirements for an amp? You were looking at a head + 4x12 cab. Now you're considering a 2x12 combo. Both fine beasts, but different. Regardless of pricing, V1 vs V2, etc, what do you need from the amp?

If the M-IV 2x12 combo does everything you want, and whatever reasons you had for originally wanting the head + 4x12 cab aren't critical, then certainly yes, go ahead and buy the M-IV, particularly if it's a good price.

Going back to V1 vs V2 amps: the V2 amps do have a few more amp models and effects, plus some other connectivity options (XLR out, positionable fx loop, etc). You should look at whether any of those are essential for you; if they are, you should hold out for a V2 amp (but maybe still consider the M-IV rather than M-V?). If you don't absolutely need any of the new features, picking up a discounted V1 amp sound a sensible choice.

To answer your question directly, no I don't personally think a V2 M-V head+cab is worth $300 more than a V1 M-IV. But it depends what you need to do with it.

I agree scott. For that price you can`t really go wrong. It is plenty loud to gig with. It can play low also and gets decent tones. Plus has the headphones & aux jack. You also have some stereo effects which is nice. It is not really that heavy. I have gigged with it plenty of times. It does not get the clarity of my Blackstar for dirty stuff. But it has some things that are on the plus side that the Tube amp does`nt. Like- everything is programable in banks. which is very nice. You can make a clean, rythem and then a boosted solo channel.Eliminates the dreaded tap dance while playing live. :) I also like the reliability of the modeling amp. Don`t have to worry about blowing tubes or other Issues that are commen with tube. I also thought abot the half stack originally. But Over the years I came to realize that, you really don`t need to haul all of that around to get a pretty good sound.
The 2x12 most of the time will be more then loud enough. Plus if your playing a bigger venue it will most likely be miked anyway. So I would keep the 300 & save it toward another guitar! :D

i went ahead and got the Mustang 4 version 1 the amp rocks!!!!
there is a tiny bit of digital decay but only on the bassman Amp model,

It's not annoying or loud enough to annoy me (not like any of the clips i have herd :) )
anyways i'm very pleased with the amp
already have 20 presets setup
i really can't believe how good this thing sounds , it's amazing :)
i'm really happy with the volume output and the fact that i don't have to push the amp to get a good loud sound :)

interesting thoughts though, the decay goes away when i use my headphones :?:

2x12 vs 4x12, i know it's not louder, more of a tonal preference and presence feeling

One thing that surprised me is how light the Mustang IV is!!!

By using the headphones, you are not using the power amp. General consensus around these parts is that the problem lies in the power amp.
