I had to let the little guy go today so currently, I am 'stangless.
Why, you may ask? Well I've only so much room for amps in the house. I'm getting something rather different amp-wise so something had to go. Thanks to all of you who've been so helpful and informative
Maybe someday I'll get an MI again but for now,

Au Revoir, mes amis. Rock On!
Orcatraz.

Would it be bad form to ask which direction you're going? I have certainly learned a lot from your posts, best wishes for the future!

Thanks, Rudorama!
I went with a Quilter Aviator. Tubes are just too finicky and inconsistent for me and I just had to go someplace different. Must be getting old... don't want to have to tweak a modeler for a while.

Hey, Orcatraz,

More info, please ... as one who followed (and did) your Mustang II mods, I am intrigued by what you think of the Quilter's tone in comparison to a Cannabis Rex modded MII. Which model did you go with, the 8", 2-10" or the 12"?

Inquiring minds want to know :D

I'm flattered, Robert.

I cannot reveal the model I ordered as it has not been released yet and I promised that I would not share any pics or any info. One cool thing, as far as I know, I'm the first to get one. It just got into my hot little hands about an hour ago and have not turned it on yet.

Comparing the MII with the C-Rex against the Aviator will be difficult as the MII is gone and I sold it with the original Fender speaker. I'm keeping the C-Rex 'cause there's no way I'm letting it go! I still love it.

I am hesitant to post things about another manufacturer's product on a Fender forum so If you don't mind, when I have the time, I'll PM you my findings. Is that cool?

O.

After listening to a few minutes of those Quilter demos, I realize you will be back with a Mustang sooner than later. See ya soon!

A Mustang is what you want then because you will be tweaking that Quilter all the time. Maybe you just got spoiled or maybe you needed some endorsement cash. <g> :D

No endorsement here. I bought and paid for it.
Oh and by the way, there's not much in the way of tweakability in the Aviator. I got the response (feel) and sounds I need pretty much at the git-go. It's pretty much a very basic amp with gain, bass, middle, treble, hi cut and master that sounds really good. There's no Sag, Bias, Pre, Post, Virtual Master Volume or anything like that to tweak.

You make it sound like I've betrayed the Mustang Church or something.
I may be back or maybe not who knows... it's just an amplifier not a deity.

I'm with you there O.

I think I'm already done with Fuse. I love the MII don't get me wrong but lifes too short to be chained to a laptop and chasing for that holy grail of presets. I'm just loading up a handful of models I like clean and getting a few pedals

Good luck and enjoy your new endeavor.

I'm sure we'll see you around here somewhere

My comments were all in jest and truly sorry if I pissed you off. I have a lot of amps and like I have said before I am a tube snob until the Mustangs came out. I like the Fender Twin model and all of my patch settings are based on this one amp model and I use a wah and an overdrive/distortion pedal in front of it for a full array and a myriad of sounds.

With that said and not to ramble but having the ability to quickly hit a footswitch and get a sound rather than dialing and fiddling with knobs on the spot seems like more work to me.

You stated sir:

" I went with a Quilter Aviator. Tubes are just too finicky and inconsistent for me and I just had to go someplace different. Must be getting old... don't want to have to tweak a modeler for a while."

Firstly, your Mustang had no tubes and tweaking a modeler in my opinion may take a little while to get down but then it is like a piece of cake with many more options.

To each his own though and I wish you all the best. No skin off my back that you betrayed the Fender, The Mustang Community, Moderator Bot, your dear old poor Mustang which you ditched and all of your Beloved Fans over here.

I live in a free country so I can say this and it is just my limited opinion you see. That amp you bought is ugly in both sound and looks. :D :) :P

All in jest!!!

Your friend, HIO

Wow, that Aviator must be some amp. I have a Vintage 1965 Fender Twin, a Mustang I V1 and a Mustang II v2. I use the Mustangs in "occasional greener grass" mode: I set 'em up with a few presets and play 'em much like a set of standard amps. Every once in a while, I start dreaming of the greener grass elsewhere, so I tweak those presets, or create a new set, then go back to just using them, with the panel knobs being tweak enough.

The point being that amps are just amps, it's not rocket science. Guitars are not cerebral devices. That's a potential downside of modeling amps: a sort of impedance mismatch, like drummers getting sucked into studying counterpoint, bound to cause some frustration.

I can't imagine spending much time "chained to a laptop", let alone getting frustrated seeking the holy grail. But I'd hate to trade the liberty of my occasional greener grass reprogramming sessions for just one mode, no matter how nice. My tube Twin does what it does just fine, as it has for over 40 years; sounds great, not at all temperamental. But if I had to give up one of these three, I don't think it would be a mustang ;-)
