recently picked up 2 ovation guitars after 30 yrs and then bought a MustangI. For now I'm just interested in a nice sweet mellow soft sounding guitar. Plugged in to Mustang and everything sounded bad. Of course I fiddled with all the buttons and knobs before I knew anything about them. Figured out how to return to factory default settings but still sounds tinney - scratchy - too much treble. All knobs set to 1 on startup while holding the exit button. any suggestions on how to get more control?
Thanks
Tom

If you're back at factory presets, choose any of the non-high gain models - Brit, Fender etc, turn off mods and FX. Turn gain down. That gives you a clean sound. This can often be easier to do in Fuse which show you the given model you're on, and its settings. You don't know by looking at the amp itself where the gain and EQs are preset, the knob positions are not indicative of what's saved in a preset. Only when you change one of these do they become 'active'.

EQs are preset too, so adjust those to where you want them. Fuse can often give you more EQ options such as mids, cut and presence, depending on the amp model.

I like the Bassman or Brit 60s for clean, rich sounds. As above, I turned off all mods and Fx, got the Eq where I wanted it, then added in a little trem and reverb to fill it out. I found Fuse easier for adjusting the tremolo.

Drubbing, THanks for the info, will try to digest it and get back to you, lots of what you said is above my pay grade ! I remember the amp I used to play with had vacuum tubes!
Gotta run to Bmw bike dealer now before they close for the weekend to get a part.
more later

It's pretty simple; I padded.

Select a amp preset. Turn the mod and fx knobs to off. Turn gain to zero. There's a clean sound.

Take it from there.

A few things come to mind. First, aren't Ovations generally acoustic guitars? The Mustang, I think, is more of an electric guitar amp. So getting the sound you want out of it may be a bit of a challenge. I think there are some presets for use with acoustic guitars that have been uploaded to Fuse so if you have a computer and can figure out how to use Fuse that will be a big help. Using Fuse will also let you control some of the parameters you can't control on the amp itself.

Second, do you know how the knobs on the Mustang work? Setting the knobs to 1 on startup doesn't do anything, because the presets control the settings until you manually change them. To get every setting to 0 without using Fuse as best as you can, when you select a preset turn each knob a bit to the right (so you know it is activated) and then all the way to the left). That would turn each setting to 0, and turn off the mod/delay and reverb effects. From there you can start to adjust all your settings to see if you can find the sound you want. Keep in mind though, that unless you save your preset changes, but pushing save twice, your settings will be gone if you change presets or turn the amp off.

Missed that. Possibly better off with an acoustic guitar amp then.

As you've got the M1, you can still try it I guess.

Hi tbdomenz,

We will be happy to assist. Seems like you've been given some great advise by other forum members here, thanks guys. Using the Fender® Mustang™ I in conjunction with your Acoustic guitar could prove to be a good combination. As some of the other members suggested, you might need to make some adjustments to the existing Presets to fit the sound of your guitar. If you at any point feel a bit overwhelmed by the "modelling amp" concept, we would be happy to offer some personalized assistance (please see phone number below). Please let us know and we will assist further.

Thanks for the offer, however before we get started you need to know the Ovations are history and the current set of strings (just picked up yesterday) is a Fender Strat Amer HSS. Sooooo much easier to play!
I will download the FUSE software and after some poking around I will give you guys a call. Lemme know anything I might explore prior to phone contact.
Thanks
Tom
