I have owned multiple GDECs, I have the Mustang Mini and the Mustang III. Love the the sounds and the huge amount of tonal options. The Mustang III is a horse of an amp and can get LOUD. The Mini is great to use on the porch.

Here is the hitch in my gitalong - the cheap parts. Plastic inputs on everything. I replaced 3 GDECs because of this. Now my aux input on my Mustang III is broken and my Mini will not switch between settings.
You guys have the sound part handled. Now how about using quality parts at least on the inputs?

Signed
Frustrated in Nashville and hunting a new amp.

Someone with the tools, know-how, and desire could make some money installing high quality jacks in Mustang amps. Also, I bet a lot of people would pay to have a 1/4" speaker out installed on the amps that don't have it, I know I would.

Scorpaeon, IIRC, the jack for the headphones on a Mustang is a special "switching" jack so as to cut the signal to the speaker(s) when headphones are plugged in. Supposedly they are hard to find.

Are you just using a regular stereo jack or did you find a source for the switching jack?

p90sdude, yes they are switching jacks. I ordered them from here...
http://www.connect-tech-products.com/in ... Jacks&id=2
Part # J-355W-C-NT
This is the ONLY place that I could find them. They are only a like $2 and change a piece, but they have a $25 minimum order so I had to order 8 of them. It's well worth it to me though, to get quality parts.

Thanks for the link Scorpaeon.

I've been thinking about modding my MII for a while now. First by swapping the speaker out with a Cannabis Rex and also adding dedicated audio record outs to go to a mixing console by tapping off the headphone jack - I might as well replace the flimsy jack while I'm at it. I'm not sure if I'll go high z or low z on the record outs yet.

If I go low z, I'll have to throw in -40 dB pads to XLRs. Info on the pads is here if anyone is interested - balanced out is at the bottom of the page. Connecting to XLR mixer inputs supplied with phantom power will probably fry the Mustang so I may just stick with high z for safety reasons/simplicity/economy.

That is sounds like a very cool mod! I'll be looking forward to see how it turns out.

Be ready for that MII to get quite a bit louder. That's what happened to mine when I put the Cannabis Rex in it. 102db@1watt/meter is nothing to sneeze at.

If I had the time, one of the first things I'd replace is that crapfest mini USB "B" connector. I'd take a Dremel tool to the panel and find a way to install a full size USB "B" connector.

@Orcatraz

I've been wanting to put a Cannabis Rex in since I read your thread about your experiences with the swap way back. I figure with the added punch of the CB it can can get the MII out of the house and on to the small stage - at least enough for Blues jams at small venues - for Florida Death Metal, maybe not so much, but I'm too old for that stuff anyway.

Yeah, the mini USB is a crapfest but, filling out a bigger hole on the panel would only give me one shot to get it right. Then again, since I'm going to mount the record outs on a small piece of 1/4" thick Lexan on the back, I could just tap some wires off the existing USB and add a regular sized USB to the rear panel.

Yep, sounds like a good idea to add to the plan...

the larger USB connector would be highly desirable, another mod people would probably pay a qualified person to do

Cool, man. I think you're idea of putting the larger USB port on the separate panel is the better one. Please post some pics when you're done.

O.
