I think I blew the speaker on my Mustang I at band practice the other day. What would a good replacement speaker be?

What makes you think it's blown? No sound or if there is sound, is it very low but fuzzy or can it go loud but fuzzy even with clean presets? If it has a very low sound output that's fuzzy the MI's power amp might be the problem and not the speaker.

Blown amp? well, wouldn't the phone/line out jack answer that one?

It gets fuzzy even on clean presets when I turn it up more than about 25%. I had it turned up all the way for a couple of hours at that band practice which lead me to think it had to do with the speaker.

Huh? What does the phones/line out jack have to do with it? Are you thinking that the power amp also powers the headphone out? It doesn't... or at least it shouldn't. Headphones and speakers have completely different impedance needs.

Hmmm... That doesn't necessarily mean it's the speaker. Is it still under warranty?
I don't think the power amp section on a $100 amp are built to withstand 2 hours of full volume use - which is why I got the MII. Unless you're planning on buying another MI in case the amp is blown, I would not recommend buying another speaker. Maybe you could borrow someone else's cab and see if it still fuzzes out. If it does, the amp's blown. You might have to do some soldering to connect it to an external cab.

If you have another working amp, you could remove the speaker from the MI and put it into the other amp and see if it fuzzes out. If it does, then it is the speaker that's blown.

I hate to say it but there is a chance that they're both blown.

If you're playing with a band, I wouldn't recommend anything less than a Mustang III. Now would be a good opportunity to invest in one of the new v.2 models as well while you're upgrading.

Although most bands would be using a PA and you can mic a small amp and get plenty loud but yes he probably blew his solid state amp or speaker or both up by running that poor little horse all the way to death. So sad. :(

Hi texasguitarslinger,

It sounds like the issue may be either with the speaker or with something else in hardware. It is also possible that it is both, depending on how the amp was being used when the issue occurred. If the issue was caused by misuse, unfortunately we would not be able to cover it under the warranty (assuming that you purchased the amp new). However, you may want to get it to a Fender service center in your area, and get it checked out to see what is going on.

Make sure to bring your receipt along. You can view a list of our authorized service centers via the link below. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,
