I was perusing the mustang floor unit specs and noticed it could be expanded by adding the 4 button switch to it. Is this the same 4 button switch as the ULT4-4? Or perhaps a better way to ask that would be can the ULT4-4 be used in that capacity with the Mustang Floor unit?

The ULT-4 and MS-4 are the same 4-button switch, they are only labeled slightly differently. The ULT-4 in 3rd mode is labeled for the G-DECs looper while the 3rd mode on the MS-4 is labeled for another use with the Mustang amps. You can use either switch with the Mustang Floor.

So is the footswitch model 0080996000 the correct one for the Mustang Floor? The Floor manual calls out MS-4, but there does not seem to be such a product.

Hi arvopl,

We will be happy to assist. The Fender MS-4 is the correct 4-button foot switch to use in conjunction with the Fender Mustang III/V and Floor device. Please see a link below and let us know if we can assist further.

No, they are not. They are very similar, but they are not the same. The ULT-4 is for the GDEC amps, and the MS-4 is for the Mustang amps, and Mustang Floor.

The ULT-4 will work, to some extent, with a Mustang amp - but will not work fully or properly, because it's designed to support the GDEC features rather than the MS-4 features. This has caused confusion in the past, with people inadvertently buying a ULT-4 and thinking it's just faulty because it only partially works with their Mustang amp.

It would perhaps have been better for Fender to make the two footswitches look physically different, and also to make them completely incompatible, to avoid the confusion of partially-working pedals.

In short: make sure you get an MS-4 footswitch for your Mustang Floor (or Mustang amp).

Thank you, Fender Staff, for the clarification! My confusion stems from the footswitch not being called MS-4 on the page that you link, and none of the online sellers such as Sweetwater or Guitar Center list it as MS-4. You can find it under 0080996000.

My ULT-4 works just fine on both my G-DEC 3 Thirty and my Mustang Floor. I just have to ignore the labeling on mode 3 when using it with the Floor.

Maybe there is something special I have not tried to do using the ULT-4 with the Floor?
