Hello. This is my first forum post, but I've been using Fender amps for a while now and I absolutely love em. I've used the search function before I made this post but I didn't find an answer to all my questions which is why I decided to make a forum post.

I've been considering to buy a Boss RC-3 looper to plug into my Mustang II, but I've got a few questions. Here they are:

1. The Mustang II doesn't have an effects loop, so I have to plug the pedal in via the Input. Will this have a negative effect on the Drum tracks already built into the pedal when going through the speakers?

2. Since it doesn't go through an effects loops I can't change presets when I'm looping since it will alter the sound. HOWEVER, you can store loops on this pedal. So am I correct in guessing that if I loop something and save it, I can then change presets without the recorded loop changing?

3. If I record via the USB input will the loops I have created (and the drum tracks via the pedal) record as well? Or how does that work exactly?

Thank you guys in advance for reading my quite lengthy post.

My assumption in the following answers is you are planning to connect guitar to looper input, and looper output to amp input.

1. Yes it will affect the sound of the drum track - but whether that's negative or not depends on what you want to achieve. The drum track will be 'processed' by the amp in the same way as any other input - so will get amp modelling, gain, distortion, reverb, phaser, etc, etc, etc: whatever is configured in the current preset.

2. You can change presets, but that will change the sound of the loop that is playing. What is recorded on the loop, with things connected the way you suggest, is just the raw guitar signal. The output from the looper will be processed according to the currently-selected amp preset, at the time you playback the looper, rather than at the time you record it.

3. Yes the looper output and the drum track will appear in the USB sound output from the amp.

The use of looper pedals with Mustang amps is discussed in many other topics, in particular the fact that for looper pedals to work in the way most people expect them to, they should be connected in the fx-loop of the amp, after all the amp's own fx and just before the power amp. The Mustang 2 doesn't have an fx loop and so a looper can't be connected to it in this way.

Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions Scott. Your answer was very helpful. Guess I'll save up for an amp with an fx-loop before I consider purchasing the RC-3 looper.
