took the mustang 3 out to a gig to show some friends. when i switched to the Europa preset had such a loud hum I couldn't use it. The "clean" channels played fine. tried playing with grounding & phase to no avail. Any thoughts.?????-dave

you picked the single most noisy preset in the amp I think.
There's nothing wrong with the amp, is just that in that particular case you have several effect cascaded, each one adding noise and amplifying the noise of the previous ones.
Try lowering the gain of the amp emulation or the level of some of the effects and you will get a better result. This is true for most if not all of the default presets of the mustangs. The effects are overdone and not quite usable unless you tweak them.

As an example, of the 100 presets stored in my M3, not a single one is a factory default at this point :)

it was my tweaked setting that i was using. At home it sounds great. I'm thinking i was tied into the bar circuit and a compressor (refrigeration unit) was affecting it. or maybe a fan.

I see. Most probably the issue was that your guitar pickups were...well.. picking-up :) the noise. the fact that the europa preset has a lot of gain complicates things further.

At home if I approach with my guitar a treadmill that is sitting not far from were I practice, even with the machine off, the hiss is horrible. the more gainy the preset, the worst.
Sometimes even lightning has this effect, I think neons are the worst but some other types can be problematic too.

Finally if your wall outlet is not properly grounded and/or other equipment is in the same circuit that might be electrically noisy, that will create all sorts of strange cracklings and hisses.

This will happen with pretty much any amp I'm afraid.
