I just got my exp-1 expression pedal yesterday and it is not being recognized by the amp. The red and green lights are not coming on. I'm able to get it to be recognized occassionally by disconnecting the wires going in and out.

I'm a dyed in the wool Fender guy, and I'm loving the Mustang III, but this pedal is disappointing. Do I need to return it, or is there something that I can do to correct this?

Thinking about this, the pedal is just a pot (or optical encoder) and a switch. It is unlikely that those components would work some of the time and not others. It seems more likely that the problem is in the amp firmware.

Thanks,
LJS

Do you also have the MS-4 4-button footswitch connected to the amp (via the second socket on the EXP-1)? If so, does the EXP-1 work normally if you completely disconnect the MS-4, BEFORE turning the amp on?

Yes Scott. That is exactly how it behaves.

Peter at Fender support suggested trying different cables. But that made no difference.

Then Matthew at Fender support suggested a factory reset of the amp. That didn't make a difference either. Matthew felt that the problem is the EXP-1 rather than the MS-4 because the MS-4 is functioning normally all the time. He suggested returning the EXP-1 to my retailer.

I'm hanging onto it for the weekend though. It's too much fun to part with yet.

Did you have a similar problem with yours Scott?

Based on my experience, yes you will need to replace the EXP-1 pedal. It is a definite fault with the pedal.

Yep. You're right. I just got my replacement pedal from Sweetwater and the new one works perfectly.

BTW, Sweetwater shipped me the replacement before I returned the original so that I could keep playing it. I appreciate not having down time. Great retailer.
