Hello, probably is a stupid question and been already asked, so i apologize!

My doubt is: is it bad to use mustang floor with powered loudspeakers like THIS ? Or is it better to use a combo amp with FX loop ?

Thanks

I use to run my Mustang Floor to a Tech 21 Power Engine via a 1/4" out. Lately, I've just been running direct to the soundboard via an XLR out. I think it doesn't really matter what you run the Mustang Floor through as long as you set up the output voicing correctly. See the info on the Utility Menus on pages 7 and 8 in the manual.

Is XLR output better than unbalanced out to go to soundboard mixer? In my band i also go to soundboard ---> loudspeakers (the ones also used by voice/keyboard) and my band mates moan at me that i may cause harm to speakers and want me to get a amp.........

I think you will be very happy with a powered speaker. I use an Alto TS110a ( http://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts110a ) with my MF and am considering getting a second so I can go "true stereo". It's got a $@!& ton of headroom and modelers sound great through FRFR speakers. also..... your guitar shouldn't be able to hurt the PA speakers any more (probably less) than the keyboards could. You should be able to use the powered speaker for stage volume (which you have control over) and also go into the PA to be mixed with everything else by the sound guy. FWIW IMO a powered FRFR speaker (or two) is the BEST option here.

Most powered PA speakers (consisting of a separate woofer and tweeter or a single coaxial speaker) are considered FRFR (Full Range, Flat Response). In theory, this is true. In practice, it's anything but. They'll be full range (20Hz to 20kHz... actually, more like 80Hz to 10kHz) for the most part, but true flat response is another ballgame.

Here's just one (of many) threads from thegearpage.net as an illustration...
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1200878

This is probably the closest you'll get to true FRFR today, but it might be outside your budget...

If you give us your upper price limit, I'm sure several people here can give you their recommendations.

I use a Tech21 Power Engine 60 to amplify my sounds (A POD HD500 for the last year and for my Fender Floor for the past 2 weeks). It sounds AMAZING in my opinion. I also have run both into a mixer and full PA system. As well, I have used them through the effects loop return of a tube amp (with not constant success as when the tube amps are turned up, the gain comes into play causing a change in tone). All work equally well IF you setup the outputs correctly (as DapperDan has stated). I find the Floor MUCH EASIER to operate and setup for GREAT TONES over the POD. Simpler, yet more effective.

Lots of people use the Tech 21 Power Engine and LOVE it. My understanding isthat you should turn off the cab simulation since you are now effectively using a REAL 1x12 cab that will effect your sound. I could be wrong here.... YMMV

My advice would be to try all possible variants... Cab sims on with the different global outputI voicing options, as well as cab sims off with each of the global output voicings, and see/hear which one works best for you.

My main rig is a homebrew 1x12 combo with a Digitech GSP1101 & Eminence Beta-12LTA speaker (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=1061338). It definately sounds much better with the cab sims on then with them off.

Re: Using the Tech 21 Power Engine.... It is basically a CLEAN Solid State power amp and a single Celesion Speaker.

I go Strat -> Fender Floor -> Boss RC3 looper -> Tech21.

This is a very flexible setup as I am able to go to gig with only the guitar and Floor.... or bring the looper....or bring all above if there isn't a PA to use. Simple to setup...less than 2 minutes....and I am playing. Easy to carry as all are lightweight too.

I set the output to "PA System" and use my normal patches (WITH THE AMPs and CABs left on). I use 1/4 inch outs (normal guitar cables) for all connections. I didn't notice any difference in a MONO setup.... Maybe going stereo would benefit using XLR but since all the venues I've played were mono, I just used the 1/4 inch outs.

I did try STEREO through my Tech 21 and a Fender Blues Jr, using my now sold, Pod HD, but I had difficulty finding quality tones to work with proper volumes. Was great for cool stereo effects but difficult to make work without endless "tweaking".... I found going mono using only the Tech 21 gave CONSISTENT good tones... The only changes needed for venue room variants was a subtle eq (usually a little more mid) using the built in 3 band eq on the Tech 21. (I always run all of them -bass, mid, treble - at the 12 o'clock position...and have rarely needed to tweak per venue. Very consistent tone. Now, if I had 2 Tech 21's and set all the dials to the same settings on both, it probably would have been a very cool stereo rig....

I haven't done any larger gigs with the Floor yet, but don't expect any differences from the POD, other than I am happier with my "Floor" tone than I was with the POD....

The Floor simply sounds GOOD in a simple to use kind of way....

I've also used the 1/4" out to the Tech 21 Power Engine and the XLR out to PA at the same time. What's really cool about the Mustang Floor is, if the Output is Configured to Mono in the Utility Menus, you can set the Voicing for Left and Right independently of each other. So, I'd voice the Left to sound best with the Power Engine and use the Left 1/4" out for that, and voice the Right to sound best into the PA and use the Right XLR for that. Great option that makes for a very versatile unit.

I use two of these for my studio rig for practice and room ambience when I am recording..

When I use it live I put together a rack unit with a Seismic Audio 2 x 12 with two 16ohm Texas Heats for some real action.. It is a QSC GX5 and a Rane Dual Band EQ.
