How can you tell what the current Firm Ware version is on a Mustang III v2?

push the UTIL button and keep pushing until you get to the info about firmware.

I will save you the work, there's only one version of firmware for v2 amps and is Firmware v2.0

Thanks. I had already checked in the utility menu. Are you sure that is referring to the firmware version? I thought it was indicating that it is a Mustang v.2 .

Hey Freehbird, I was wondering the same thing so I did a little more investigation....

Note: I am not encouraging you to apply this beta firmware to your amp. I'm not from fender, just a fellow enthusiast. If you mess up your amp, you're on your own and I'm not responsible lol

Around the time this thread was active (4/9/13) fender created a post regarding a *beta* version of firmware 2.1
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=85312

I applied the 2.1 *beta* update to my Mustang III V2 amp and the number on the utility menu that you referenced changed to reflect the firmware version of 2.1 thus answering the question whether that number references amp version or firmware version (It is possible that we could use these terms interchangeably here, although that is speculation on my part. I'm guessing fender could use multiple "." notation, so we could see 2.1.1 -> 2.9.9 for example... providing more than enough combinations for firmware updates throughout the product life-cycle without creating a need to use 3.x which I assume will be reserved for future product versions... rambling here... I know)

Anyway, It's also noteworthy that I successfully used the same update process and selected the option to use the version included with the software (I'm running 2.7.0 version of fuse software) to "update" back to version 2.0. And after I performed that action, the number you referenced in the utility menu on the amplifier went back to 2.0 (the original factory firmware). Personally, I was able to move between the 2.0 and 2.1 versions of the product firmware quite easily.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

Thanks for the information. I had a feeling that it was the firmware version, but it's not clear. The Fender G-DEC3 clearly shows the firmware version on amp startup.

I appreciate the feedback.

Notice any differences with v2.1?

Hi Freebird,

The only thing I noticed was the additional menu item referenced in the firmware release notes...

"Added Utility Menu item to configure the Effects Loop insertion to better facilitate looper pedal usage. There are two options: Normal and Looper Pedal."

The amp still sounds great after the update! No noticeable change to sound (or any other functionality), at least from my perspective. So far it seems like a solid update! :D
