need some help with my son's Mustang 1 amp. It stopped working through the guitar input. It will play from the auxillary port but not from the input jack. So, I can hear music from an iPod that is plugged in but not from a guitar. This came on suddenly.Any thoughts or advice? Is there a secret setting somewhere that is cutting off the input jack? The Amp is less than 2 years old but I do not have a reciept anymore

have you checked to make sure your guitar cable is good ? also you might want to check the wiring in the guitar to make sure that there are no broken solder joints, sounds to me like it could only be 3 possibilities, 1. bad guitar cable, 2. something wrong with the wiring of the guitar, 3. broken solder joint that connects the input jack to the PCB board inside the amp, I would check my cables and wiring first off,, If that isn't the problem since the amp is only 2 years old I would send it in for repair using your warranty

good tip, actually and easy way of checking if your lead cables are fine is to:

-disconnect the lead cable from your guitar, but let it connected to the instrument input
-put master volume to around 5
-now, touch the tip of the lead cable with your finger, you shoudl hear a loud buzz over the mustang speaker
-if you don't, try with another lead cable, chances are your cable is busted
-it it does buzz, you have an issue with your guitar

it is not the cables or the guitar. We have other amps and guitars and have checked that. I am sure it is the amp.

I am not happy with Fender right now for not responding here or on their facebook page with suggestions.

I think I spent $200 on the amp and would expect that to send it in for service would cost be another $100. I will probably end up simply buying something else and using this for the auxillary jack only. So much for decent fender products

These forums aren't an official support channel. Fender respond here as and when they have time. My experience is that if you contact them directly (email or phone) they are very helpful at sorting out problems.

Did you buy it from a local store? Bring it back to them and let them worry about shipping it for service if necessary.

Just a thought... is the amp completely silent on all presets?

Apologies if this is daft/obvious and you've already checked this, but I thought it worth mentioning as there have been other topics with exactly the following problem...

Have you downloaded any presets (from the internet, via FUSE, to the amp)? Sometimes, these have their volume set to zero by default, so you get no sound. You have to manually turn the volume up (nb the preset Volume, not the amp Master Volume).

Or similarly, have you edited a preset (on the amp or with FUSE) and inadvertently saved it with its volume set to zero - or some other parameter set to zero that results in silence.

If either of the above has happened, and that preset also happens to be the power-on default, you'll get no sound when you first turn the amp on. Hence suggesting to try other presets too, as well as experimenting with the settings (volume etc) within the presets.

thanks for the thoughts:

I bought it from a local store but they don't service it. It would cost more than its worth to send it out for factory service and I don't have the receipt. Since they sell now for about $100, it is not worth putting money into it.

We did nothing with the presets and following the reset instructions don't seem to do anything

the other strange thing is that the amp has a built in tuner but that doesn't register anything with a guitar plugged in.

I would have expected to see a broken connection inside or a broken wire but nothing seems out of place. Since it is all solid state circuits, there is not much that would have broken that is easily fixed.

I guess we own a $100 boat anchor.

As far as the comment that this is not an office fender support platform, that is nonsense. It is one thier support page and they state they monitor this site.

Back to Line 6?

The amp should still be under warranty? (others state all these amps have a five year warranty). I'd still suggest contacting Fender directly by email/phone to see if they can do anything to help you.

Where is this stated? I went looking and couldn't find it. They do indeed monitor these forums, but the amount of time you wait for an answer seems to vary. The best way to get a quick answer is always a phone call.
