So any advice before I start tearing my amp open? Which screws do I need to remove / not remove?

Hi,
I did opened mine recently out of curiosity. It is really easy, you only need to remove the 6 or 8 screws at the bottom of the top part holding the electronics. Screws may seem tight but that is because they are wooden screws. I recommend you put it upside down over a cloth to do this, pay attention to the speaker as some screws are not far from the speaker (you are going to need a medium/small screwdriver)

Once opened all PCBs are accessible. You are going to need to detach the preamp PCB as the jacks are directly soldered to the PCB. It will be great if you can take pictures of the PCB while doing so for others that will do the same mod in the future (I expect a lot of people doing it)

Ok, I did a little exploratory investigation and figured out how to open it up.

I'm gonna order the new jacks. When they come in I'll document the procedure and post it here.

Hi Night wing,

Just so you know, as soon as you crack open the amp yourself, you void the warranty. I've had my headphone jack replaced twice by a service center and I'm not about to send it in again and be without my amp for another month so they can put the same cheap junk back in it. Plus my amp is a V.1 amp so if I screw it up, its good excuse to upgrade to V.2.

Yeah, I know that man, just said that in case I'll ever get to some DIYing, but thanks for the warning.

...I wonder if there'd be enough headspace internally to fit a 1/4" jack.

There's not much room under there. You have to replace it with another jack of the same dimensions or else cut a bigger hole in the cover and allow it to protrude.

I think just having the metal ring will solve the problem because that is the part that snaps off. The jack its self is pretty solid in the board.

I love the Mustang amp, but I do hate those cheap input jacks and the fragile usb port.
Why has Fender chosen for these cheap connectors??? Why didn't they used a type A or B usb port??? Much bigger and stronger!
Why not chosen for bigger input jacks for the headphone and the aux input? Beside that, this amp is really awesome.

I am very curious how these jacks will fit. Anyway, I've noticed that the input jacks on the Mustang Mini are secured with a nut to the control panel. Much better I think. Will these jacks fit on Mustang I, II or III?
