So I just got my Fender III V2, I finally decided to buy it since with the new V2 the fizz issue seemed to be gone, but I'm having a bit of another problem with certain presets hissing extremely bad.

I know there is a noise gate function which cancels out a good deal of the hiss, even though it kills some sustain, but certain configurations are still hissing quite bad.

For example, Angry Rodent, Liquid Solo, Doom Hand and especially Europa are hissing bad on mine, but those are just examples.

For instance, with master volume on 3 and stock Europa preset (with noise gate to super setting, standard is high, which is unbearably hissy, even at volume 3), I can still hear the hiss clearly when I'm standing 30 feet away with ambient noise around me from computer fans and such. In this particular case the hiss is espacially annoying because it is also phasing.

Problem can't be the rest of my gear, cause even without a cable connected the hiss is still really there.

I'm sure my wall outlet is grounded properly and no other devies are conencted to the outlet and I'm not using a different power cable or extension cord.

So, is this much of hiss normal? Do other owners of the Mustang III also get a really loud hiss from Europa at master volume 3, or do I have a bad model?

Thanks a lot in advance

I think I've kind of found the answer already, I've got the same kind of hiss as the the Fender guy is demonstrating in this video, so I guess I've got to learn to live with it.

I find that a lot of the noise comes from (?) my guitar's single coil pickups if I'm near the PC, and the pickups aren't "balanced", say just one is on. Not hum, more like digital hash and semiconductor hiss. If I select both pickups, as optimal to reduce hum, it also knocks the hash WAY down!? That's a little puzzling. And of course the noise gate is helpful.

Another annoying source of noise with the Mustangs... I found that if the guitar cable passes close to the footswitch cable at any point, there is all sorts of hiss, hum and clicking through the amp. It took me ages to figure out. But simply keeping the cables as far away from each other as possible (yes, even with a good-quality shielded instrument cable) solves it. Just mentioning in case this is helpful for anyone else.

Scott-uk,i would replace your original footswitch cable that came with your amp with a good quality shielded guitar cable and see if that makes a difference with your hiss and hum noise problem,i am pretty sure that the footswitch cable from fender is more like a unshielded speaker cable and that could cause the hiss and hum that you hear.

That's a good one scott. I discovered one myself the other day. Is not related to the Mustangs per se, but given that many people uses laptops with the mustangs might be more noticeable with these amps.
If while holding any guitar you get close to a computer with Wi-Fi, as you get closer and closer you will hear something like high speed chalkboard scratching with your finfergails. A similar thing happens with cellphones, but I have found is worse with Wi-Fi.

We had a discussion a while back on cables for footswitches, and there was some poo-poo'ing of the idea of using ferrite cores and a balanced shielded line, since lamp cord works fine.

The single button footswitch cable will act as an antenna if you don't wire it smarter. The multi-button one has to contain a microprocessor to handle the display, so there's data flowing on the cable, another source of noise. If I use a guitar with one single coil pickup on, the amount of hash and digital noise it picks up, above and beyond the hum, is significant. Anyone using a Mustang in a live situation would do well to optimize any wiring that connects to it.
