I just got my mustang a few days ago and am trying to use ableton today. I am going into a laptop and do not have an interface or monitors, only my laptop speakers. When I open up ableton and try to record, im hearing a very faint guitar signal and it sounds like it is an octave up. And if my laptop gets tapped or bumped, it makes a loud thud. I figured I wouldnt have to buy an interface. Is there anything I can do about this?

crap. mustang is not showing up. I downloaded a fender asio driver and have that selected. Maybe I should delete that driver and start over. It would be nice if the manual actually came with more instructions.

Search this forum for the word ASIO. You'll find lots of posts describing how to set this up. Search the Fender support knowledge base for the word ASIO. You'll find articles and (I think) even a video explaining exactly how to set it all up.

Here are the two key articles to get you started:
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... io-driver/

Hi primeholy,

It sounds like you are having some trouble getting things set up with your ASIO driver perhaps? Please feel free to contact us directly, and we will be happy to offer some additional assistance. Thanks.

I do not care for Ableton it is not user friendly and when you get that great guitar riff in your head you will most likely lose your idea before you can figure out how to record it into Ableton. Mixcraft is the most user friendly DAW i ever used but i only had the demo version and it started to give me some runtime and other errors lately so i do not use it now but i am now using Mackie Traction 3 DAW witch is much easier for me to use then Ableton and it has some very nice effects and works with most VST plugins.

I bought Traction 3 a few years ago from musicians friend at a closeout for 29.99! I use this DAW in my main studio setup in my basement but i also have my mustang I in my bedroom and it is connected to my other computer and i use this as my simple setup for recording my guitar riffs fast without losing inspiration,i use Audacity for this purpose that is very good to use with your mustang amp for getting your guitar riffs recorded without any problems.

I also just discovered Studio One from Presonus that has a single window operation and is also user friendly to use,i would suggest anyone who finds Ableton too difficult to use to first consider Audacity and then checkout Studio One,Studio One has more features for multi-track recording then Audacity and here is a link for the free version of Studio One,(this is not a demo or trial version but does not have all the effects and other features of their paid versions).Presonus has a comparison chart of all their Studio One versions. http://studioone.presonus.com/free/

@prime ... this is a common issue. Because the Mustang is only an input device, you are using two "things" at once, the Mustang and your speakers. Use the little ASIO control panel to dial in what is going where. Then if you want to use e.g. Youtube, you generally have to release the appropriate device. You can usually do that with the ASIO control panel, but it always takes some futzing with.

There are a lot of good apps to record with. Every one has pros and cons. Whichever you end up using, there's a significant learning curve. REAPER is free to try (as long as you want) and pretty complete. Cubase is what I use most. Ableton is best for working with little sections at a time. On the mac, Logic is great.
