Hello,

I apologize for such a simple question, but I just cant figure it out.

I need a clean effect on the amp with no distortion or anything like that, just plain clean and nothing else.

How do I do this on the Fender mustang 1?

Yes, as you guessed, I am very new at electric!

Andrew

Download this and see if it is what you're looking for.

The fender Twin model is also a nice "clean" amp.

You could try a couple of things:

First, try using just the Basic amp models in the presets. Like Basic Bassman. these have no extra effects added- just the amp models. Not sure where they are in the 1 or 2 ( I have a 3, and they're presets 87-99). The Twin is pretty much the quintessential Fender Clean sound. Adjust your gain, volume and eq controls to taste.

Second, look for clean presets- there are a BUNCH scattered around in there. Most have fx, esp reverb added, but fairly lightly. Intro Clean, Johnny Marr clean, and Country Deluxe are favorites of mine. For example, Intro Clean has reverb, chorus, delay, and compressor added, but it's still a very clean sound. Even with 4 different fx added, the tone of my Strat shines right through. Imo, the first three, used judiciously, just make cleans sound better.

Thirdly, fx can always be turned off or adjusted, if they're a bit much for the sound you want. I do this myself, sometimes.

Hope that helps!

The twin is clean but 'pushy' because of its latent power. I have discovered the bassman amp with the 2x12C cab with the gain turned down is the cleanest, richest sound to my ears. It is less urgent in the way it produces the sound, IMO.

I haven't gotten that far into the "fiddle-around-ability" yet, but I am a big fan of the bassman model. I'll have to give it a whirl. I wonder if you can do cab swaps from the control panel of the Musty3? ( I STILL haven't downloaded fuse.)

Not that I've been able to find. Would be handy though.

The cabinet choice can be found by clicking the "Advanced Amp" tab. You'll also find Blend (if the model supports it), Master Volume (if the model supports it), Noise Gate, Sag, Bias and USB Gain.

The original question was if the cabinet could be changed using the controls on the amp itself, not through FUSE. I can change sag and bias on amp, but haven't found out how to access the cabinet settings using the front control panel on the amp.

If you mean "clean" as in "transparent", then look for the EMPTY preset in the Web presets (by using FUSE to access them). It disables all modeling. You can use it as a pass-thru, or to just use effects, no amp model.

@Jeff, how do you access Sag and Bias from the amp's controls (not through FUSE)? What else can you access that way?

After some looking, I found you can indeed change the cab from the front panel.

You call up the amp model, and go to page 2 of it's controls- either by scrolling through the controls, or by pushing the amp button. Page 2 has the sag, bias, cab, gate, and other deep editing controls! The actual controls may vary by amp model.

The OP has a mustang 1 so I don't think he can change cabinets on the amp.

If you want to get a clean sound without using Fuse, then you can go to the preset for 57 Deluxe, 59 bassman or 65 twin in the red or green banks. You could do it for some of the other amps but if there are stomp effects on them, those will not turn off on the amp.

Then manually turn off the effects on the amp by turning the mod knob a bit to the right (to activate it) and then all the way to the left to turn off all mod effects. Then turn the delay/reverb knob a bit to the right (to activate it) and then all the way to the left to turn off all delay reverb effects. That will get you basic 57 deluxe, 59 bassman or 65 twin and then you can adjust bass, treble and mids (hold down exit while turning the treble knob).

Now every time you turn off your amp or change presets and come back to this one, the effects will be back on (and you have to turn off the effects for each preset individually). If you want to save a preset with the effects off, then you need to turn off the effects as described above and hit save twice. That saves your changes.

Hope this helps.
