Hi there.

Just received my Mustang III v2 and I'm loving it... However, I was connecting my headphone for practice and immediatly noticed the connector to really wiggle very easily. Almost like it's only semi attached to whatever is below (I did not test this much as I was concerned I break them right away)!!! Same for aux!
Now, I read about people complaining about cheap plastic jacks on the Mustang v1 series, but is this really normal? I don't mind the plastic very much, but aren't they attached firmly onto something inside? Or only to a logic board and no support what so ever? First impression was, this must be defective...
I will use it really 95% in my appartment so headphones will be used quite often - makes me even more concerned. I usually are quite easy on my gear so I think I could manage, but really ?!?!

Would love to hear your experiences...

PS: Another question while I'm at it. I also bought the 4-foot and Exp-1 and tried to get some WahWah action goin, but to no avail... I did the calibration and could assign it to the gain level, but I could not make out any crybaby like thing when I tried it with using modulation, controling frequency...
What would be a good setting for a nasty crybaby??? I'm confused for other settings, too. Would I need to go full range 0-100% or 30-90% or don't use frequency all together but something else ?!?! Sorry for my noob questions ;-)

The connectors you mention are just soldered to a PCB so treat them with extra care. To avoid putting extra force on them I normally run the phones cable under the amp handle and do a loose know around the handle.

I use the exp pedal on a mustang floor for the wah effect and I control frequency with it, going from 30% to 60% but that is just personal preference.

Alright, thanks for your reply.

So, about the wiggle... Do you also have this (probably not since the floor might be quite different, but maybe you have experience with Mustangs)?
Like, headphone plugged in, if I touch say 2cm above the top amp cover the plug will move some mm... I cannot think how this will survive 1/2 a year, not even a couple of months? isn't the plug attached to the coverplate in any way from below? Or are my cuts for the jacks not right and give way? Maybe I have a jack-lemon there...? Quite bizzare given that I read for hours about the fizz thing on v1, decided to wait and get the v2 and now something minor as headphone jack stability might force me to return the amp since I _WILL_ use the headphones quite a bit as I will play it often after work during the week.

I'm quite experienced with gadgets (mostly computer electronics, just so you know that I'm not an electronics noob), but something like this cannot be right. I literally insert the plugs vertical, while giving support with my other fingers against the top of the amp to minimize any possible horizontral strain...

I'm just curious if (a) this is considered normal (just cheap jacks), (b) I have a lemon and finally if others are also observing this but don't consider it a problem...

I would really hate to return it for something minor like this but I'm still in my return window and might have more hassle if I wait some weeks and it breaks then (and I'm positive it will, no way this wiggle will not break soldering joints)

Thanks for your input on the wah settings, too.

PS: If this is considered normal for v2 Mustangs, do v1 amps show the same wiggle? I could get some Mustang III v1 for 50 Euro off after they got the v2...

I do have a Mustang 3 too :) the wiggle you mention is perfectly "normal" to the mustang v1 series (and apparently to the V2 too) and is the reason you will see many posts about broken aux or phones jacks. It is not attached in any way to the faceplate and is only soldered to the PCB. Nobody likes that as far as I can tell and is one of the biggest complaints about the mustang series.

What some people did so far is:
-connect a short extension cable to the phones out and wrap it around the handle or something like that to avoid the stress on the connectors (my case)
-replace connector by metallic ones (voiding the warranty of course)
-use the line out at the back of the amp, from there go to a mixer or similar and there connect your phones.

sorry about the bad news.

seeing strings post made me think, my M3 connectors feel definitely not-strong but not necessarilly "wiggly". Unfortunatelly I have never been in front of a V2 to compare if that got worse or if it is the same as V1

Thanks guys,

I guess I'll visit a local music store and check out if their amps have the same thing. I played it before, but did not test those connections (who would  ) Maybe I'm overdramatic on this, but I have honestly never owned a gadget or kit with such a flimsy connection (well maybe some 5 Euro chinese thingy).
It feels as if it's only fixed right where it enters the amp and I can tilt the entire jack once something is inserted giving a bit of a seasaw effect...? Not much, but if the only connection inside is some soldering this will not last. There must at least be some guidance, other fitting or something inside to keep it at it's desired location, no?

Thanks anyway. Appreciate your input! :P

I have a Mustang II, the first one lasted a week and the headphone jack broke, I should point out that this was their floor demo unit. They gave me a new one and so far so good but I'm really careful using these jacks! I'm going to try to find a small grommet or an o-ring to fit the gap between jack and cover, if I don't find something I'll just shoot some epoxy or silicone gunk in their to reinforce it.
