The Mustang I does not have the fizz problem. The MIII and higher do. Now the Mustang III version 2 is out and that does not have the fizz issue.

So just MIII v1's were fizzed. Why only one in the whole range, surely it's got the same DSP as all the others had?

MIII, IV, and V (V1.0 amps) are subject to the fizz issue. Some armchair troublshooting and educated guessing has lead most to believe that the problem was due to the power supply in those amps. Which is believed to have been fixed in the V.2.

The MI and MII (V1.0 amps) had an issue that was called "obnoxious tail end distortion". Whether or not this was the same thing as fizz, I don't know, but it was fixed by a firmware update.

Exactly. Thanks for expanding on that difference.

Call it Fizz, OBNOXIUS TAIL END DISTORTION, DIGITAL ALIASING or whatever you want , all had the same result. Being a power amp or eproom problem is not the question. The problem appeared at first with the I and II at first. The III was not born yet! Later they fixed it via a software update on the I and II and the newer III.

Here's a post where there's a clip where the poster call the issue a kind of Digital Aliasing:

https://soundcloud.com/spiesteleviv/fenderfizz/s-QkDHb

The sound is exactly what I had on my Mustang I.

Here's the post by Fender about the fix:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=49789&start=30

Then some folks stated that, despite the fizz was gone on their III, it came back after a while, say a month, after the firmware update.

On my Mustang I the problem never came back at least not as pronounced as it was.

Some III owners confirmed that the fizz was definitely gone on theirs but , others owners are still stuck with the same issue and Fender will not do anything for them.

Being a power amp or eproom problem is not the question. The thing is that there's still plenty of "deffective" III v1 out there that have the Fizz, OBNOXIUS TAIL END DISTORTION, DIGITAL ALIASING or whatever you wan to call it.

My advice to anyone interested in a Mustang v2 is to wait! Wait one or two months and read the reviews. Anyway, that's what I'm gonna do. A used III v1: no, not for me! A new III v2? Maybe...

I had a mustang II for two weeks today. it was fun at first, but didnt sound the same on my demo CD tracks the band was recording. But my iPad.with Amplitube worked great. this amp is going back and I'm going back to tried and true tube amps. Fender Excelsior, here I come

were you mic'ing it, using the USB output, or line-level output? I'd be surprised if the amp didn't sound the same on the demo tracks as it did in real life.. .especially if your using usb or line level.

I tried both ways, when recording, I keep effects off so they can be mixed in later. The amp does not have line out other than headphone jack or USB. I typically mic an amp with a SM-57. Typically, I've done quite well with a Peavey Deltablues, Fender Blues Jr, and Marshall 18watt. This tone just sounded flat/sterile in comparison. So hard to pinpoint it. It was rather disappointing when I hear it through recordings instead of just live with the band.

I get the same syndrome via headphone. And I have really good headphones. It just sounds sterile, dead, digi and flat compared to live out the speaker.

I haven't returned the amp just yet, but my Fender Excelsior is waiting on my front porch at home.

Standard or Pro? That speaker upgrade seems to have really brought the Pro to life and made it loud enough to gig.

since spilling my coffee on my Mustang 1 - I only get sound through the headphones. I play through headphones almost 100% of the time so there's no real problem but given the cost of repairs on most electronic stuff (it's only 3 months old but I doubt the warranty covers spilling coffee down inside of it.) So I'm buying the V2 this week I guess. (This time from my Local Guitar Center for future problems if any) I want to experiment running my avid ELEVEN Rack though it anyways... also the presets seem to periodically change by themselves on my V1... I bought it online and screw the expense of sending it back... V2 here I come!
