Hello,

I would like to buy a Fender Mustang II amplifier for my Stratocaster American Special guitar. I know that the input power on this equipment is 110 V. I am living in Brazil and the electric power is 220 V, 60 Hz. The energy power is not stable in this country. The voltage can raise and low very quickly. There are a lot of power cuts too. I am thinking that may be I should use a no-break device to protect this amplifier against these voltage variations and these power cuts. I own a no-break device and its output voltage is about 110 V sinusoidal.

Please, I would like to ask if my no-break device could be used for the Mustang II amplifier and if it will not damage this amplifier?

I would also like to ask if my other electric guitar, an RG 1820 X Ibanez with two humbucking pickups, will work on the Mustang II amplifier?

Yours sincerely,

Jean

by 'no-break device', do you mean an uninterruptable power supply (UPS)?

Indeed, this no-break device has a system that converts the sinusoidal 220 V electric current into a sinusoidal 110 V electric current and it contains two batteries working to maintain this 110 V current when a powercut happens.
I think that this 110 V current is quasi sinusoidal.

I've never used a UPS that simultaneously converts power, but as far as I know, if you're running off a battery @ 110v there is absolutely no risk, in fact it gives a buffer between the amp and the house electric to protect any connected devices.

Thank you very much for your answer!

The link of this device is: http://www.sms.com.br/produtos/produtos ... liaId=N004

Please, do you know if this 110 V current needs to be purely sinusoidal for amplifiers?

This part puzzles me. Fender produce country-specific variants of the Mustang, with power supplies suitable for each country's mains voltage. So a USA Mustang works with a 110V supply, a European Mustang is 220-240V, etc.

If you're buying an amp in Brazil, it should be the correct voltage for Brazil. Or are you buying one from a different country and importing it? Or is it common for the 110V version of electrical products to be supplied in Brazil?

I don't know this 100%, but my (reasonable) understanding of power supplies, whether coils-of-wire transformers or 'switching', is that the wave form shape isn't at all critical.

It sounds like your "no-break device" will do exactly what you want - as long as your amp really is 110V.

Yes it will work beautifully. You may need different presets for each guitar though, depending what sounds you want to achieve.
