Just a quick one to draw on info from those that have one.

its a toss up between

Blackstar HT-5 R

or Fender Mustang III v2

Both are way different but have key features I require, most importantly headphones out.

Your thoughts please

Thanks in advance

Jon

The Blackstar HT5R was on my shortlist too. It's a great little amp.

I chose the Mustang in the end for greater variety of amp sounds, plus the built-in effects. Although I use the effects a lot less than I thought I would. I do however like experimenting with the different amp models and the tone/sounds they provide.

If you don't need the effects (or you already have / plan to get external pedals), and the Blackstar sound covers all the tones you want, then no-one could say getting one is a wrong decision.

On the other hand, if you want versatility of tone, go for the Mustang. It really is like having a dozen (or more) amps and their characteristic sounds, all in one box.

One other thought: although Blackstar pitch the HT5R as a valve/tube amp, I understand it also uses some SS circuitry to shape the sound, so isn't a 'pure' valve amp. Just mentioning in case that's an important consideration for you. The Mustang of course is SS entirely.

My standard reply on these types of "Mustang vs." posts: Consider also the option of going with the Blackstar and adding a Mustang Floor pedalboard which will give you all of the effects and amp models of the Mustang amp.

Having your cake and eating it, too- I like the way you think!

To further muddy the waters, I've heard many good things about Blackstar's ID series modelling amps. One major flaw: no fx loop, if that's important to you.
