Just ordered a 50 foot guitar cable for the mustang 4's pedal. This cable will go from the back of the amp to the 4 button pedal. (the one it came with is only a 15 foot)

It should work right? :?

Why on earth would you want a 50 foot cable? Maybe you live in some other place.

I've been on stages that were big enough for that to matter. Looks stupid if your amp is halfway between you and the backline.

I don't think 50' would be a problem, but you might want to wait for the official word on that.

I just dont want the cord running through the middle of the stage...keeping it in the flow with the rest of the cords (PA,Monitor,etc...) I may only be 15 feet away from my amp at any time...but less mess on stage the better. So in theroy...if this works it will go from the back to the side...and not through the middle...

Keeping the stage clean so when I pretend to know what Im doing I dont trip over everything....

Uh,... I have performed live in front of 50,000+ people and on national television and didn't need a cord half that long but I understand the OP's point about hiding cable and such.

50 feet is 1/6th of a football field and how long of an instrument cable are you gonna use? Hopefully not unbalanced.

Wireless for my guitar.... This is just a chord for the pedal. It will be posted by my mic stand. Ive used a 20 footer for this pedal, and yes thats more than enough for a very small stage. But come spring for festivals, the stages get a little bigger than your tipical bar corner and or indoor stage. So to have that extra bit of cord would be more than worth it.

Uh, is every stage everywhere the exact same size?

And uh, as far as I know, audience size and stage size are unrelated.

Uh, go back and re-read it slowly, nobody mentioned using the cable for an instrument.

Define small stage because I have played in a lot of them as well and i think we now need to pull out a measuring tape. Why did you have to ask the original question if it is sooo common now?

I did,... and it was an addendum to my point which your little snippet left out. :)

Can I join your channel or have I just ruined it?

If you don’t like what I want to do with the cord.....who cares...lol

The foundation of my question is...would it work? That simple. Im not here to debate how long or big the stage is not...nor how many people I will be in front of. I have a question for somebody who has the answer. If you don’t have the answer I need, quit hijacking other people’s forums to buff your ego

First of all this is a *thread* you started and not a forum, but yes we are in a *forum*. Secondly, if you can remember I was the one who first chimed in to help you get your answer.

Maybe my first response was a bit curt but i asked a question just to get clarification. Now to answer your question,... 50 feet will work fine but I hope you and I will both find relief knowing that i will never try to ever help you again.

OK, here's the whole quote:

Hopefully not unbalanced? For a foot switch? I guess by the time you end up playing those huge 50,000+ gigs, you forget how your gear works.

Strings,

You and I and anybody that can actually read knows I was NOT just writing about footswitch cable but instrument cable as well.

It is very dis·in·gen·u·ous to keep taking my comments and putting them out of context to win some kind of argument.

In fact it is a sad commentary on your part. You were the one to bring up the big stages and I was just telling the truth to make a point.

HIO, I wouldn't have jumped on those details if you hadn't come across the way you did.

Oh, dear.

From an engineering standpoint the issue is what the input circuit for the pedal looks like. Nobody but Fender can tell us, yet you can be pretty sure that nobody at Fender will ever risk a categorical answer. So let me try.

It seems the pedal has its own microprocessor and they send data back and forth. The issue is whether noise the cable picks up might not affect the input circuit and either damage it (less likely) or trip it, causing the amp to e.g. switch modes, or get totally confused. That depends on how well designed the circuit is, and on the kinds of wiring the cable will be running near. Run an ordinary instrument cable 50 ft parallel to some switching lines and it could get ugly. The conservative answer would be 50 ft is risky. But if you must ...

Personally, no matter what Fender might say, if you must have the length, there are two things I would do to prevent unpleasant surprises.
1) Run the cable at the amp and the pedal through a ferrite core, preferably winding it once over the core. These cores are readily available and used on a lot of gear. That will absorb some pulse noise and you should test that it does not interfere with data transfer.
2) Make the 50 ft extension run using a balanced microphone cable, to shield both signal and return wires, and use an adapter to convert XLR to whatever the native plug (1/4" tip/sleeve?) is at both ends. Preferably ground it only at the amp end. It sounds like a standard mono instrument cable is what is used. If more pins are used, like a stereo plug, you might need a shielded extension cable with more conductors.
