Newbie question here: Is it possible to connect the Mustang floor to a 4x12 cabinet? (Not the head, just the cabinet.) If so, how? I've read the manual and still can't figure it out.

From reading other posts, I didn't understand that the floor can't be used only with a cabinet.

So I would need to hook up the floor to the 4x12 head (Marshall MG 100w head) to access the cabinet that way. But how would I hook up the floor to the head? Through the basic guitar input jack, or through the inputs on the back (fx loop, etc)?

I admit, I'm stupid on these things. Help!

I would buy a rack mount stereo power amp to connect with your mustang floor, you can find them from about $100 and up,check out musicians friend or any other music outlet store. Here is a link for a behringer 1000w power amp from M.F. for $199.99 ,i could not find any at $100 but in the past M.F. had nady power amps in this price range.

+1 to a rack power amp if you can, that has to be a killer rig. Has anyone tried a tube power amp with the M Floor? I was curious if it sounds good, or if the emulation + power tubes is a bad combo.

Thanks.

If I don't want to buy a power amp, could I instead connect the floor to the 4x12 cabinet's head? If so, how?

Thanks.

no, you can not do it, the amplifier on the mustang floor is 0.5 watts or so, only good to feed a PA or mixer, you need a power amp to drive a cabinet.

If what you need is the functionnality of the floor (minus the expression pedal) plus a powered amp, you could buy the Mustang 5 that does exactly what you want.

or use a cheap, external power amp as people suggested.

Connect the output of the Mustang to the EFFECT RETURN of the Marshall. None of the Marshall's knobs will work except the Master Volume. This is normal.
What you are doing here is bypassing the Marshall's pre-amp and tone controls, and only using the Marshall's power amp.

+1 on the previous post... connecting through the effects return will give you much better sound than plugging in through the guitar input because you will by-pass the pre-amp.

Also, go to "Edit" on your MF and you will probably want to set it to "combo amp" or "stack"

I run my MF through an Atomic Reactor 112 slave amp. It is basically a 18 watt power tube amp with 2 EL-86s and a 12 inch high frequency speaker. The amp has no tonal characteristics of its own as it is designed to work only with amp/cab modeling units and not distort the sound of the amp models. It does however add the tone and warmth of live tubes! Thing sounds awesome and, especially with some of the killer Fender amp models on the MF, I would defy anyone blindfolded to tell the difference between the MF and Atomic Reactor rig and the real Fender amp!

Unfortunately, Harry Kolbe, who invented Atomic Amps, sold the company to Fractal Audio. The new Atomic Reactor FRs are designed for use with the high-end Axe FX modelers and hence the new Atomic Amps are insanely priced!
