All my computers use Windows XP and I'm certainly not buying new ones yet just to use Fender Fuse.

From Microsoft:

Support is ending for Windows XP

Support for Windows XP is ending on April 8, 2014. If you're running this version after support ends, you won't get security updates for Windows.

Since Windows XP, there has been Windows Vista and Windows 7 for home PC's. Now we're on Windows 8. I know XP was awesome, but there comes a time when you really have to upgrade, usually around the time you are 3 versions behind the current release. I remember people using Windows 98 for ages because it was good for gaming, but even those holdouts had to eventually move on.

P.S. You don't need to buy a new computer every time a new version of Windows comes out.

I think that number is probably exaggerated, and also doubt there's any good way of getting a tally. If I fire up an old Windows XP computer in my basement, and don't connect it to the Internet, how would anyone ever know it was running? Same goes for when I shut it down for the last time and get rid of it.

I also have XP and i like it and do not want to upgrade to any newer O.S. I had windows 98,98se and windows 2000 in the past and always had the blue screen of death and other problems with these past versions of windows but XP runs the best so far for me.

Will the new fuse version 2.7 have any advantages for the older mustang amps or does it just have added features for the new mustang version 2?

I run Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on over 100 computers, and it's rock solid.

We haven't moved on to Windows 8 yet, but I've played with it on a laptop and so far so good.

Vista wasn't quite as reliable in my experience, that's the one to skip.

According to this report last April, it's more than 40% by a good margin:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2402820,00.asp

April 8, 2014 is still over a year away and even then XP machines are not going to suddenly be vulnerable.

Besides, the computer I have dedicated to audio in my home studio does not connect to the network unless I want tranfer files, I can enable and disable the network adapter at the click of a mouse button. Heck, I don't even run Antivirus on that machine - they're a resource hog that will just cause problems when recording and playing back audio. It doesn't need security updates.

At any rate, it's pointless for me to lose sleep over, Fender has made their decision and that is that. I'll just have to take my "beta release" and like it.

But, I won't forget about this either.

Got to run now. I have to buy a new phone because the one I bought 6 mo. ago is now obsolete (jk).

The graph actually shows 39.51% for January 2013, but that's splitting hairs, it's around 40% by their count, which I do not feel is a correct number.

I disagree, it will. I sure wouldn't run it in a business environment after support ends, especially if the company is handing credit card transactions.

Wait a second. The fact that XP is still popular is undeniable. But the big issue isn't so much Windows 7 or 8 or even Vista, it's the 64 bit aspect. A PC that can only accept 4 GB of memory should stick to a 32 bit OS. But any PC that can handle 6GB, 8GB or more, is much better off running a 64 bit OS, be it XP-64, Vista 64, 7 or 8. It's not a conspiracy. A 64 bit OS can run 32 bit programs better, giving each instance a full 4GB of memory. This is huge. 64 bit and 32 bit samplers can be bridged into our venerable trusty 32 bit DAWs, ending the whole 2GB limit nightmare. It makes perfect sense to focus on the 64 bit stuff, and support 32 bit XP in a lesser capacity.

I am quite sure the tube purists folks are amused by all of this. Could even be a corporate strategy. Some like my self might realize relying on tube amps is the wiser choice. The price of the all tube amps would give a marketing exec a woody if more would buy them. I have already decided that my next tube purchase is either DIY or a Penn amp, an NJ outfit. (Maybe a Hughes and Kettner) He has no returns on his amps and the stories of QC problems with re-issue amps has become common. Fender is not Leo's company anymore.

The official word from Fender (as posted in the FUSE section of the forum) is:

For Windows XP users, while we have updated our minimum system requirements to Windows Vista and later, we are continuing to test Fender FUSE for functionality and compatibility with Windows XP. And we will continue to offer Tech Support for Windows XP users.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your inquiry. To clarify, we are continuing to test for full functionality and compatibility on Windows XP/SP3. We will also continue to offer support for our customers using Windows XP/SP3. Our decision to list "minimum system requirements" is based on the age of the operating systems and current "best practices" in regard to operating systems minimum requirements for both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Windows XP/SP3 has been tested and is compatible with Fender FUSE version 2.7.0. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,
