Hi - done a search but nothing came up :)

Has anyone tried placing another Power amp after the effects out (there must be some small ones out there somewhere) - then wired up the speaker to that Power amp, thus bypassing the "fizzing" Mustang power amp ?

I think mine is starting to go-fizz, and don't really want to splash out on another amp just yet - I like the Mustang effects and amp models so am trying some lateral thinking!

yep, I have my FX-send permanently connected to a bass, cheap solid state amp. It complements my mustang 3 tone perfectly and in the rare cases that the fizz bothers me, it masks completely the fizz.

At the same time, the bass amp doubles as a amp stand for the mustang 3, as I discovered it sounds 10 times better if it is level with me while playing

in this particular case the traynor 15" amp was a gift from a friend but you can find similar stuff for under 100$

Are you using the Traynor speaker ? or just as a power amp ?

I am thinking of something like the EHX Calibre 22/44 thing, then taking the output from that straight into the Mustang speaker as it has extra connector tabs already (I have speaker cables with spade connectors)

i'm going from the mustang fx-out to the traynor instrument input. this amp adds almost no coloring to the sound so it's pretty much like a 15" powered monitor with a tonestack.

You can find similar powered monitors for less than 200$ but with smaller speakers.

the solution you present should work (using the mustang speaker but with an external power amp, taking the signal from the fx-send), but personally, paying 100 bucks for small solid state power amp I think is a big rip-off. If space is not a constraint, for similar money you can get another amp, with a second speaker, and that will add a lot to your sound.

Just thinking of size really - if I could get away with another combo I would prob would!

There might be a few other cheaper power amps, transparent as much as possible, out there.

I had this same thought a couple of days ago.

Plug one end of a lead into the Mustang's fx send jack. Plug the other end into the fx return jack on a Tube amp. Mustang modelling, fx, and user interface, with a tube power amp. Sounds like a winner! I was mainly after the tube power amp sound, but if you want to bypass the dodgy power section of your amp. this would do it.

You can still run pedals in the loop, too.

You could loop the signal back to the Mustang's speaker if you want. or just use the other amp's.

FWIW, I got the idea from a trick posted on another forum, for bypassing the digital pre-amp. This fellow hates the sound of digi modelling and pre amps, so his solution was to connect a good pre-amp style OD pedal to the fx return, thus bypassing the pre=amp, tone stack ,modelling etc completely. You plug directly into the pedal, and use IT as the preamp. Obviously, it needs to be always on... The Blackstar HT series drive/distortion pedals seem made for this- they really are a pre-amp in stompbox form.
