When I hooked my mustang V to the computer to use fender fuse, It wants to update. After about 5 minutes of seeing nothing happen, I unplugged it. It said if you do, it could harm the amp, but its o.k. I was just wondering if it is normal to take a long time to update, and does this have something to do with the upgrades people are talking about?
I bought the amp used so i didnt get any software or knowledge on it. I love the amp, I just want to use fender fuse. Any help would be appreciated.

Perhaps obvious question, but asking as you don't explicitly mention this:

Did you put the amp into 'update' mode? You do this by turning the amp on while pressing and holding the data wheel.

Also, info that may be useful to diangose this:

What version of firmware does your amp currently have, and what version are you trying to update with?

Is the version you're trying to update with, one that came bundled with FUSE or one you've downloaded separately?

I put the amp in update mode, It was not telling me anything after several minutes. I got paranoid and tried it again but to no avail. I have no idea what version I have. I downloaded fuse and started from there. I enjoy the amp as it is but would love to be able to use fuse with it. I think that could be a lot of fun, but I dont want to risk my amp either. Im an old school picker who never kept up with technology much when it comes to playing. But I could use any advice available.

Cottonmouth51, can you please read through and try this, let us know at what point you are unable to proceed?

UPDATING FIRMWARE ON FENDER® MUSTANG™ I-V AMPLIFIERS

How do I update firmware on my Fender Mustang amplifier?

Your Fender Mustang amp's firmware can be updated by the user with the Fender FUSE software and your amp connected.

To do this, please follow the steps below.

1. Go to the Main Menu (top left hand side in the Fender FUSE user interface), and select Utilities and Update firmware.

2. Turn off the power on your Fender Mustang amp. While holding the Save button (the Data Wheel on III, IV, & V), turn the power back on.

3. A dialog window will open. Here you will choose either the bundled firmware update file or you can browse for the firmware file you would like to update to. (The current Mustang firmware version can be downloaded below)

4. Once you have selected the correct firmware file, select it, and Fender FUSE will automatically begin the firmware update process.

5. Once the firmware update is complete, turn your Fender Mustang amp off and back on. At this point, the update process is complete.
