Hi I am new here so please bear with me if some of my questions have been addressed previously. I noticed all the posts concerning the new version 2 software. I have a Mustang 4 that I bought in late 2011. It had older firmware which I updated as far as I could. I have never had the fizz problem in my #4 and it seems that most who complain about the fizz have a model 1,2 or 3. Am I correct ? I noticed another #4 owner who did not have fizz. Since the #4 and #5 are so similar, are they both less prone to the fizz issue? I wish we could take a poll here and see in which models it is more prevalant. Please if anybody here has any statitistics, or proof due to the number of posts, service data etc I would sure like to see it, and I'm sure others here would also like to see any correlation between model numbers and problems of any kind, especially fizz. I doubt Fender will ever share that with us!!LOL This kind of data helps us be more cerebral when we go to purchase gear or anything. Did I just get lucky, or is the #4 less vulnerable? I am keeping my old #4, for cost vs performance it does just about all I could ever want and weighs half of what my Twin amp weighs and it HONKS!!. However I am replacing those darn plastic jacks!! Thanks in advance to anybody especially you guys who have been on here a long time and might already know the score!!! Thanks

Hi Stratech,

Well, according to the Fender official note, everybody that has a M3-4-5 has the fizz, but you will hear it only under certain conditions.

If you want to hear how the fizz sounds on your amp and then decide if you care or not, this is a way of making it evident:

On your guitar
-select your bridge pickup, preferably a humbucker in this case
-put guitar volume at 10 or max
-lower tone of the bridge pickup to 1 or min

On your M3-4-5
-Select preset 92 (basic deluxe 65)
-lower treble to minimum
-lower mid to minimum
-increase bass to maximum
-put master volume to around 2.5

Now, on your guitar, fret the 12th fret 6th string and gently pluck the the 6th string with the tip of two fingers, if you do it very hard it could mask the fizz, as the fizz is usually 3dB lower than the actual guitar sound

The scitar modulated high pitched sound in the back is the fizz.

Actually, I have never heard of the Fizz issue on a mustang 1 or ii, or on the Mustang Floor either. On the other hand I have never looked for it on my Mustang II or Floor.

exactly, the fizz only exists on M3-4-5, particularly in the solid state power amp section, so your M2 and MFloor are not subject to it.

I posted the how-to-fizz steps so anybody with a M3-4-5 can test, listen to the fizz in their amps, and decide if they care or not, before the return period is over.

There is a chance the new M3-4-5 v2 will not have the fizz, but that is science fiction for now, we will know in march-april if the fizz is gone or not when the new amps hit the street.
