I'm fine with that. I have what I purchased, not what came out a few years later.

P.S. why are there so many threads for the same thing??

Those evil Fender people... how dare they improve their product without replacing the old products for those who already bought one! I mean, say, hypothetically, a car company would never introduce an upgraded model without reimbursing all who bought the older version, right?

when and if Fender comes up with V3, including the V1 amp tolex and metal jacks I might consider upgrading...

in the meantime I have everything I need with the V1

For those in desperate need of the upgrade, when it becomes a reality and supposing it works eventually better than the v1 (new DSP = new code arghhh), I guess if your amp eventually "breaks" you are going to get a v2 replacement...

another option would be, if fender makes available spare parts, to buy and replace the boards and you get an instant v2 in a v1 package (I frankly have no idea how or where to buy fender replacement parts)

Well, I guess we've seen our last firmware update, boys. Might as well chuck all those wish lists. No more new pedals, features, improvements...Fender has shipped us off to the orphanage.

yep - I'm fine with not getting any of the V2 extras
I'm just not gassed into getting a V2 model - which I was expecting ..
But then again that's not so bad - makes me concentrate on playing the guitar.

I'm with you guys. The carbon fiber is by far the superior look, and these new models and EFX which I never asked for are quite superfluous to me, I have more to work with than I need right now. And at 100 honest watts, who needs to run through the PA?

Maybe they maxed out the DSP already =/

No they didnt ship you guys of, they released a new improved model. When playstation 4 comes out this fall/winter playstation 3 will be pretty much abandoned by sony.

Hard to say about the chip, likely they made it smaller and cheaper to produce. My source didn't think that the new chip would be some kind of pathway to awesome new downloadable features. Same modeling engine, etc. Basically Fender has never had any plans to add models or EFX in Firmware upgrades, only via new hardware.

But I wouldn't rule out the new chip having some role in Fizzgate, along with the power supply culprit.

Watch V.1s get blown out at bargain prices now. Especially since you might get a fizzer in the bunch, and the retailers are sick of all the returns so they'll want to dump em quick.

Mine is actually fine so I'm standing pat.

I'm not so sure - the PS2 stopped production only a month ago. The PS3 will probably stick around with active SKUs, at least until 4K TVs become appealing enough for the average consumer (if rumors are to be believed).

Anyhoo, the end of the line with firmware updates is rather expected. Anyone who has released software updates knows how razor-thin the margins can be - each update runs the risk of turning someone's experience with the amp into a large headache. There are also people out there who like stable, reliable technology which they know will not blindside them with sudden changes or incompatibilities.

But if you really need to get the V2 and are worried about being stuck with an "end-of-the-line" V1, you could always sell your V1 for a great price to your local school, town recreation department, or orphanage - since Fender is "sending you there" anyway, you might as well bring the amp along with you.

Look at it this way - at least the Mustang line actively lives. I don't currently see a G-DEC 5 on the horizon (but then again, I haven't even come close to exhausting my G-DEC 3).

That's very cute. No one said anything about "needing to get the V2." In fact I haven't seen more than one person here say they even wanted one. What we were hoping for was an amp with a longer upgrade path. After all, that was one of the main selling points of the Mustang line--download free updates from Fender. Even my little Garmin GPS has free updates for life. For a while there Fender was asking us for ideas for new features. They just didn't mention we'd have to buy a new amp to use them.

I won't be getting another cheap Fender amp. The V2 has no metal jacks, no external speaker jacks, no ohm selector switch, and after the shoddy way Fender treated those of us with fizzy Mustangs, you think I'm coming back for more punishment? No sir.

My MIII has been relegated to the position of solid state backup for my tube amp. It's not sturdy enough to be a pro-gigging amp, and I don't think it was ever intended as such. I think it's a really, really good amp for teenagers.

I am OK with the fact that V2 firmware is in some way not compatible with V1 hardware.

Maybe V1 memory is already full, has stated somewhere in the forum, or V2 have better DSP. I dont know and i can face it.

I also do not mind about many of the features in the V2.

I just wish to get my hands on the green screamer overdrive... i would also be happy if Fender pull out an alternative firmware version with the green screamer instead of the standard OD.

Anyway i will soon go to the store for an A/B comparision between the V1 overdrive and the V2 screamer.

I could do with a 20€ behringer in front of my MIV1 but the idea of an external stomp really piss me out!

I guess that Fender had a busy weekend with NAMM, but i think it is time to come back to the forum!

Ummm, to clarify: Fender have only (reportedly) said V2 firmware isn't compatible with V1 firmware. They haven't said (unless I've missed it?) there will be no more V1 firmware updates? The former does not imply the latter, it's just one possibility.

Hopefully...
A new chip does not of itself prevent the use of the same source code, nor should it lead to firmware teething problems with the V2 amps.
So as a Mustang III owner of just a few months, I am still hopeful that some of the improvements that were suggested by the V1 owners will become available in future V1 firmware updates.

[The firmware would be created using a high level language that is portable, probably C++.
Even if the new hardware provides more Ram or more grunt that is needed for some new features, those particular features could just be turned off in the precompilation for the V1.
For Fender to do otherwise would just make life difficult, because they'd need to maintain additional source versions.]
