No, the X2 (and XD) use the old Cyber I engine from the FM DSP Frontmans, the G-DEC originals and others. The Mustangs use Cyber II which is shared with the G-DEC 3 series. The Cyber I's were pretty good, though, and pumping into those awesome 6V6s makes all the difference.

Sounds like you know more about it than I do. Thanks for the info. I was mainly trying to get the point accross of the differences in how the patches are used on the two amps. I love te way the scx2 sounds at high volume but I like the mustangs over all flexibility better.

The Stangs are incredibly flexible. You can get pretty much anything you want out of them. When I play my Variax into my MIII, I can pretty much switch dimensions.

Hi. I'm having the same dilema... trying to choose between the two amps.

In my situation, I don't play often and I only jam with other people occasionally. I'm thinking that the super champ, being a tube amp, will only give me its best sound when I crank it up... which I think could be too loud for just practicing alone (with the baby in the room next to my jam room).

The Mustang however probably give me a very good sound, even at a low volume. The flexibility of the mustang is also very appealing to me.

So I'm leaning towards the Mustang....... BUT... I've always loved the tone of a tube amp. It's just so much richer and warmer.

I'm torn, guys!

Keep on posting your comments! Your feedback is all very interesting.
And...
Keep on rocking in the free world!

I think the effect of tubes in practice amps are wildly overrated. 'Richer and warmer' adjectives are totally subjective. I think my SS Vox Pathfinder has those qualities in spades.

Whereas the all-tube Vox AC4 and Vox hybrid VTs sound pretty awful IMO, yet the old AD ones I thought were far better. A good amp is a good amp, irrespective of innards.

As volume and breakup become a priority, then tubes can dirty up more nicely to many ears. The X2 is the nicest modeller I've heard, but I wouldn't put it all down to the tubes.

If like me, you're using an amp at home, then paying for huge watts in something like the MIII is questionable. You'll never crank it up there.

The M III is only $300, so it's not like you're paying a king's ransom for the extra power. However, the main reason I, and many others, got the 3 was the vastly interface. The LCD screen etc is worth the price jump over the 1 and 2. With those, you really need to use Fuse to get the full use of them. With the 3 you don't, unless you want to get into really deep editing, or download different patches. You also get the 2 button footswitch, and a Celestion g12-t speaker. The larger cabinet and 12" speaker also sound better- even at bedroom levels. And lastly, if you do get an opportunity to jam with others, or decide to gig with it, you will definitely be able to hold your own. You won't need to upgrade to a louder amp.

I own both the 'Stang III and the SCx2. Both are great sounding amps!

I take it you're in the US. I don't know where the last poster is, but in these parts a M III is $650 and an X2, $550. So I'm going to be pretty careful how I buy, even if they can be had a bit cheaper than that.

Whether the onboard features are something he's interested in, I don't know, but personally I found the stangs a PITA to use, LCD panel or no, not interested in the infinite Fuse tweaks either. So for me, with a family too, It's an extra big box of loud I can't use fully.

I found the X2 sounded better overall and was easy to use.
