hi. i bought the mustang ii amp and i think the cleans and delay are great but the distortion its horrible. I think im goingo to buy a boss me-70 but i heard this amp cant bypass so my question is:
1-the boss me-70 will sound good in this amp with a clean channel?
2-i heard that if i cut off the back of the amp will sound good. this is true?
3-i cant find a good distortion even to a pop/rock song like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDpRdX1tO_k or youtube.com/watch?v=5kWT7VeZqSs the heavier distortion of the amp is too bassy and dirty sometimes i cant distinguish the chords. any tips?

1 - Yes the Boss ME70 should work fine. Think of it exactly the same as connecting the ME70 inline between a guitar and a 'normal' amp. You can use whatever amp model you like in the Mustang, to make it behave like the corresponding amp. Just turn off the effects in the Mustang (you may need FUSE to fully do this with a Mustang 2) and use the effects in the M70 if you prefer those.

2 - Most people think the amp sounds good as-is. Taking the back off the cabinet will change it acoustically, but who knows whether you'll like the change better, and will also compromise the structural strength of the cabinet. Bear in mind the amp speaker, etc, will have been set-up for the closed cabinet as built. I'd try the suggestion in 3 below before doing anything drastic like cutting open the cab.

3 - All guitar amp speakers have a certain directivity, more so than hifi speakers. It varies from amp to amp. I've seen claims that the Mustang 2 can be more directional than most. This means that if you're right in front of the speaker you'll get all the high frequencies, but if you're off to one side or above/below the amp, you won't get the high frequencies - this could explain the 'bassy' sound you hear. Try standing in front of the amp and angling it backwards, etc, so it's 'firing' directly towards your head/ears. Others have reported good improvements from doing that.

regarding the tone, let's say the video you posted is far from clean-chord-friendly :)

anyway give this a try:
-Dial british 80's and/or American 90's preset
-adjust gain and tonestack as desired

Thanks so much ill try that. just one more question the speaker affects how the distortion of the boss me-70 will sound? like to me the heavier distortion of this amp doesnt sound very good (the lighter/classic distortion is a lot better) but if i put the pedal it will sound good or the speaker will affect the performance?

I have exactly the set up you're referring to. I had the ME-70 before the Mustang 2 and used to use the amp sims. I play mainly clean-ish tones, and the Mustang sims are just so much better than the Boss. I now plug the ME-70 directly into the Mustang and bypass the Boss amp sims. The Boss has a pretty good variety of distortion/overdrive options. I can kick one in on a clean setting and get a great distortion, not mushy at all. The great thing for me is the looper on the ME-70, I use it all the time at home. Also some good delay effects, octaver and the expression/wah/volume pedal. A nice unit, but it brings home how good the Fender sims are. Do an A/B test on the Bassman sims....no contest whatsoever.
