Pressing the left-most button changes the footswitch mode, and a red/orange/green LED lights up to show which mode is selected. The function of the other three buttons depends on the mode. Each button has three words printed on the footswitch case beneath it, one per line. These say what each button does in each mode.

In mode 1, the right-most three buttons each select a particular preset: QA1, QA2, QA3. These can be any presets: you specify which presets you want using the "quick access" options on the UTIL menu.

In mode 2, the middle two buttons select each preset in turn, in numerical order. One button goes 'UP' the list (increasing numerical order), the other button goes 'DOWN' the other way. This is the same as turning the 'wheel' on the amp to change presets. The right-most button jumps through the presets a 'BANK' of ten at a time, either 'up' or 'down' depending which of the middle two buttons was most recently pressed (eg if you're on preset 37 repeatedly pressing this button will either go to preset 40, 50, 60, .... or to 30, 20, 10...). This allows you to move through presets more rapidly.

(Posting this reply in two parts, because for some reason the forum won't let me post it all in a single reply :? )

In mode 3, the buttons don't change preset at all. Instead, they turn the STOMP, MOD or DELAY effects on or off within the current preset. If the current preset doesn't have one of those effects, pressing the corresponding button does nothing. This is the same as (briefly) pressing the STOMP, MOD or DELAY buttons on the amp itself.

For completeness, pressing and holding the left-most switch puts the amp into "tuner mode" - the same as pressing and holding the TAP/TUNER button on the amp. Pressing any foot switch then puts the amp back into normal mode. Note the amp is muted in "tuner mode."

If that doesn't answer your question, please explain in more detail what exactly you don't understand and what it is you want to achieve.

Finally, have you downloaded and read the Mustang Advanced Guide? I just realised what I've typed above is very similar to what that says - so if you've already read that, my replies may not help; if you haven't read it, you can find it here:

I didn't want to start a new thread just for this, so borrowing this related thread.

My 4-button pedal arrived a couple of days ago ... I know it's a simple piece of equipment but just wanted to shout from the mountain tops how happy I am to have a display on my pedal! And being able to select 3 QA presets should get me through most if not all shows with my band. It switches fast and the buttons are comfortable for me. My first show with the new MS4 is this Saturday, I can't wait!

Went perfectly, the foot switch worked flawlessly and having a display made all the difference. Buttons are comfortable and switch reliably, absolutely no complaints! I used the QA1, QA2, QA3 mode.
