I need a heavier duty adapter for the Mustang Floor ASAP. The stock AC adapter isn't going to cut it. Anyone know a a company that will custom build?

I can see your problem jwoertz, this kind of wire always makes me nervous.

If you weren't able to find a more robust alternative, maybe you could zip-tie the thin portion of the wire, kind of like this, but a little neater?

It doesn't look like it will take a good accidental kick either way though, so maybe if you built a sheet metal tray that's a little bigger than the floor, and mount it to the tray? Just thinkin' out loud here ...

Yeah, I've gotta do something. I'm actively searching for a company to custom make a better power option for me and other Mustang Floor users. The stock AC adapter is ridiculous!

I think your main obstacle would be the barrel type connector. I was very happy to see they went with a standard PC power cable for the MIII (durable, and easy/cheap to replace). I guess that type of connector just wouldn't fit on the thin chassis of the 'Floor.

Hi Guys,

We wanted to chime in here and suggest that owners of the Fender® Mustang™ Floor units that want or need to replace the power supply for their Mustang Floor contact us at the phone number below to get the part number for the correct power supply. They are low cost, and can easily be ordered. This way, you will be sure that you have the correct power supply.

Best Regards,

But it's still the same thing. We need a longer run with a heavier power cable and no brick in the middle. A brick at the far end is fine. If you guys build THAT, I'd be the first in line!

Hi jwoertz,

We will pass along your thoughts here. What you may want to do is to neatly wrap the cable end between the power supply and the Mustang Floor itself and tie-wrap or otherwise secure that end of the cable near or at the unit. Then, use an appropriate extension for the A/C end of the power cable so that it meets your needs in terms of the length needed.

Best Regards,

Will do for now. A different PS all together would be great, though. That way it can be included in a custom snake. Thanks!

PS: Looking forward to the Mustang III version 2!

I have a Visual Sound One Spot 12v (1.7amp, 2.1mm x 5.5mm connector, center positive) which would be perfect, except the barrel (5.5mm) is just a tad too big to fit.
The 12v One Spot was designed for wireless units, most of which take 12v, center positive 2.1mm x 5.5mm adapters.

While you couldn't use it to power the Floor, I tested the connector for my Lenovo netbook which has a 5.4mm barrel and it does fit, so I just ordered these two items from DealExtreme.com to see if I can make one of them work with my 12v One Spot...

5.4mm Male to Female extension cable (Don't know if this will do any good, but I'd rather try to jam a 5.5mm plug into the 5.4mm jack of a cheap $3 cable than the Mustang...

DC Power Adapters for Laptops (5.5mm x 2.5mm jack to various sized plugs)..,

I'll give a report once I receive them.

EDIT: Assuming the 5.4mm barrel size works, this may be a possibility as well:

It's been mentioned here that 3rd party power adapters frequently have the wrong barrel size. I ran into that myself a couple times. The simple solution is a barrel adapter - a little adapter that steps up or down the barrel size to match what you need. I got some recently from B G Micro. Check out - http://www.bgmicro.com/search.aspx?find=barrel+adapter

Fender techs, the only way you can help is to release a better AC adapter. I'm not trying to sound mean, but that's really what we've been asking for all along. Not replacement adapters of the same model, but a heavier-duty adapter wit the power brick at the end so we can run it into a cable snake on stage. Just like the Visualsound "1 Spot".

Fender, I can understand the barrel connector being a different size than the 2.1mm/5.5mm standard, particuarly since the power requirements are 12v center positive, and you wouldn't want someone accidently plugging a 9v "boss style" adapter into the Floor. As jwoertz stated however, the cable going from the barrel connector to the brick on your adapter is just too flimsy and fragile for a product that's supposed useful life on the floor or stage. If you would just spec out an adapter with a heavier duty cable, we'd have no reason to look for an alternative.
