This has been discussed here before but wasn't really resolved. We need backup AC adapters for our Mustang Floors. Apparently Fender won't supply them, like other manufacturers do. The back of the Mustang Floor manual says, "POWER REQUIREMENTS: AC/DC ADAPTER: 12VDC 800mA". So, I went online and ordered a 3rd party AC adapter fitting that description, but it didn't fit my Mustang Floor. Apparently there's no standard plug size for the round barrel plug that goes into the unit itself - and Fender didn't include that necessary information in the manual or on their website. Does anyone know what plug size fits the Mustang Floor and where to get them?

Hi DapperDan7,

Thanks for your inquiry. I will check into this on Tuesday when we are back in the office and follow up with information for you.

Agree! The problem is there are standards, just lots of them! This wikipedia page is good:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_power_connector

There are six key pieces of information you need, all of which you can find relatively easily.

- The external diameter of the barrel. Suggest you measure your existing plug using vernier gauge or micrometer.

- The internal diameter of the barrel. This is admittedly harder to measure. I'd do it by inserting the shank-end of various size drill bits (or similar) and see what fits best; each external diameter has a limited number of internal diameters (see tables on the above wikipedia page) so it should be possible to narrow it down. Of course, this assumes you have a good selection of metric drill bits (etc) in sub-millimetre sizes!

- The length of the barrel. This is less important as I *think* that for each combination of internal/external diameter, there is only one length.

- Which pin is positive. The existing power supply, or printing on the M-Floor itself near the socket, should tell you that. There might be a little diagram of a dot/blob surrounded by a ring. A little line to the dot will be marked + or -, and a line connected to the ring marked - or +.

- The output voltage and maximum current (or power - which is just volts x amps so you can convert from one to the other). Again, this should be on the existing power supply or the M-Floor, as you've already noted.

Once you have all that, you should be able to find a replacement power supply to match.

The other thing to bear in mind, that I mentioned in your other topic on this, is that the amount of DC regulation, noise suppression, etc, can vary a lot between different power supplies. One designed just for powering an electric motor, for example, won't have much suppression (which makes it cheaper to produce). You'll want to find one specifically designed for audio equipment (or other such purpose needing a good quality supply) - although I concede it can be hard determining that from the product descriptions! Price may be a good indicator here - although I say "may be" with caution!

After all that, good luck!

Thanks scott-uk for the good info - and Fender TSL for checking into it for us. I've had that skinny little adapter wire going into equipment from other manufacrurers that went bad and had to be replaced. Fortunately it was from manufacturers that sell replacement adapters. I'd be in a panic if that happened to the adapter wire into my Mustang Floor. I just want a back-up so I'm prepared. I think a lot of us want one.

Hi DapperDan7,

The part numbers for the Fender® Mustang™ Mini/Floor power supply (100V-240V) and cable (for North America) are listed below. For regions other than North America, an appropriate C5 "Mickey Mouse" cable will be needed for the specific region. This can typically be found at a local electronics store. Please let us know if we can assist further.

Fender Mustang Mini and Mustang Floor:
0094419000 US/EU power adapter

Fender Mustang Mini and Mustang Floor:
0094421000 Cable/North America

Still having problems. Electronics supply places don't recognize either of these parts numbers. Google only turns up the posts on this page and links to foreign phone number sites.

It looks like a Fender part number, rather than a generic power supply part number, which would explain why normal electrical suppliers don't recognise it (if they don't deal specifically with Fender stuff). You'll probably have to get your local Fender retailer to special-order it from Fender, or maybe you can mail-order it from direct from Fender. I'm sure Alan / Fender TSL will reply here soon with helpful info!

Hi DapperDan7,

As scott-uk stated, these are Fender part numbers. You can order the part through a Fender Authorized service center or by calling the phone number listed below. And just to clarify here, are you looking to purchase a second power supply? Or is the one you received with your product not working correctly? Thanks.

OK, I understand, now. Thanks for the added info. Yeah, mine is working fine. I just really want a backup. In my past experience with equipment from other manufacturers, the power supply is the weakest link, and can render important equipment unusable. Thanks, again.

I just bought this adpater from Radio Shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=3807944
It says in the specs that it can service electronics up to 1.5 mA. I know Mustang is 800 mA. If I used this adapter, would it harm the pedal board?

It shouldn't, Sam. The Floor will only take what it needs.

Not owning a Floor, I'm curious. Are the Floor power supply units from Fender the old and heavy iron-core transformer types or are they the more modern lightweight digital switching type units?

it's a wallwart kind (switched) but with a power cord instead of direct plug to the wall. Problem is the cable from the power supply to the floor is really cheap and flimsy, a laptop kind of cable would have been perfect instead.

It's kind of crazy because the floor itself could possibly survive falling from a 3rd floor, but the power supply looks it will not survive an accidental kick.

Did the Radio Shack PS work?
