I just tried the new fuse version and it includes no firmware upgrades for any v1 mustang and neither for the floor.

Out of curiosity, to see if in the past fender added features to the amps via firmware updates, i tried to search for firmware release notes in the forums, and I found the topics have been systematically erased by fender... I wonder why.

Anyway, at 200 Kilobytes of size, I'm not sure how many things can be corrected or modified by firmware.

just a guess, but I'd figure they wanted to avoid confusion by only posting one version at a time.

With a tiny fraction of this capacity in the onboard computers they flew spacecrafts to jupiter and saturn. Of course they had no "silverlight" on board ;) Do you know what a Commodore 64 (KB) was able to do? Guess not.
The firmware does not do the modelling itself but just the communication between the different hardware components of the system (controls, ICs, ports ...). The "difficult" things are done by hardwired ICs, hardware, not exchangabel firmware ...

As a hardware vendor employee let me tell you that putting models or any kind of programming in non rewritable memory in 2013 is plain dumb

If i remember correctly one of the firmware upgrade was told to improve one of the stomp boxes emulation...

I guess I expressed it misunderstandabel. I didn't mean the models are hardwired but I expect all the calculation subroutines are done by specialized chips and not by code on the firmware level. But you may correct me.

hey guys, good news, free V2 firmware update with new amp models!

check this out:
http://line6.com/news/general/1291

For those naysayers that think amp models can not be added by firmware update!
uh oh, wait a minute, maybe there's a little problem with this update running on v1 amps...

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were possible to upgrade the firmware of a v1 amp to v2 (or at least partialy). After all, FMIC is in the business of making money and they want to give people incentive to upgrade to a v2 amp.

On the other hand, deception is a tactic used in warfare and treating there customers as "the enemy" is sure to come back and bite them in the long run.

It seems to me that Fender has made a lot of missteps as of late, from "Fizzgate" to long held back FUSE and firmware updates to the current on going problems of the FUSE community site and this too.

Time to throw their existing customers a bone or risk the rath of those with long memories.

Many company's stopped there free software programs and other goodies they used to let you download and about 2 or 3 years ago line 6 had there Amp Farm amp modeling software as a free download and this was a full working version(not a trial or demo version),they made money on there plugin version of Amp Farm and there TonePort usb Audio interface and i also almost forgot to mention that line 6 had GearBox amp modeling software as a free download, this was the version before Amp Farm.

I was lucky that i downloaded GearBox and Amp Farm before line 6 took these programs off there download support site! To be able to use these software programs you still needed to buy a line 6 TonePort usb audio interface, they have several models to choose from ranging in price from about $100 to $400,i found a used TonePort UX1 for $50,that was a great price because new ones cost about $150!

I guess line 6 came to there senses and realized they were giving away too much with there GearBox and Amp Farm software amp modeling programs even though you still had to buy there TonePort usb audio interfaces for these programs to work.

The day amplitube or the likes comes to the market with a unit similar to the mustang floor and charge you to buy/download and install effects and amp models on demand they will make a ton of money, starting with myself. I just detest the idea of going through a computer to play my guitar so an autonomous pedalboard is essential to me.

Right now you can download their software for free, and try out any emulation for 3 days free of charge, if you keep it you pay from 5 to 30$ per effect/amp.... Instead of getting people to pay just once, they pay everytime they download something new, which I bet happens all the time... a brilliant idea.

I'm pretty sure Fender could do it right now with the existing mustang line of products but for some reason their marketing guru does not think the same as me :)

Sounds like a very good business model to me too. Make money off of new amp sales and make money off of existing customers for an upgrade.

Heck, I'd pay a nominal fee for an upgrade to version 2 for a nominal fee. But, I'm not going to go through the trouble of buying a new amp just for a few more amp models and FX and then selling my old amp.
