Hi
Have just recently acquired a Fender Mustang Floor and have an issue preventing me from using it. There is a very loud Hum when using it. I have tried different guitars, different outlets, different amps and different cables as per advice in other posts here with a similar problem.

The noise is there through headphones or through an amplifier. Seems like a grounding issue of sorts in the unit. The same cables, guitars, power outlets and amplifiers are all quiet when used in my other brand multi effects units.

There is one anomaly, when I plug it into my usb port on my laptop or computer it goes away. Unplug the USB and it comes back as loud as ever. I discovered this when updating firmware.

Any assistance would be appreciated as I cant use it in its current state.

Scott

If you think it's a grounding issue, have you tried the 'ground lift' switch on the M-Floor? (mentioning as you don't cover that in your original post).

I just received a Fender Floor yesterday 01/10/13. Played it for 3 hours."LUV IT".

Just an Idea :!: Try taking the floor to another house, building and test. Sometimes certian lights or energy sources can cause hum or buzz. If that doesn't do it.
Try taking back for exchange or warranty if new.
Hope you get it worked out. It is really a great multi effects unit.

Keep Jammin! Enjoy Life!

it sounds like a ground problem to me. When you perform the usb connection you get the ground connection from the computer. try plugging the floor in the same outlet you use for your computer.

another thing to try, start unplugging other things in the room, unplug any floor lamps, the television, etc. and see if there is something in the room causing interference. Try shutting down and unplugging the computer too, since the hum went away when you plugged the UBS into it.

It used to crack me up when I'd get a call about a 'bad' computer monitor, and it would turn out to be the user put one of those magnetic paperclip holders right in front of their (old school CRT) monitor. Sometimes it's something silly like that.

Hi
I have tried all the suggestions and the hum is still there, only when a cable is plugged into the input jack and with no usb connection. I have checked the cables on other effects units and they are fine. I am thinking maybe the input jack on the mustang is not grounded properly?

Is that feasible?

Thanks

Hi

Just for reference I managed to solve the bad hum, Used an XLR to Phono cable for the output and it is hum free.

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't be satisfied until it was hum-free through every connection possible. I'm glad you figured out something that works, but you should be able to use it normally without issues.
Of course, I am a bit anal...and slightly addicted to problem-solving.

Does anyone have any idea why the XLR to Phono cable would "solve" this?

If you (or anyone else with this issue) don't mind, I'm also curious about -
....what you have the "Level" knob set to (on back of Mustang Floor
....what king of guitar/pick-ups are you plugging into it
....if you have fluorescent lights or ceiling fans nearby.

** As a side note - It very well may have nothing to do with this issue at all, but I'm always a little surprised that nobody asks about pick-ups being used when someone complains about a "hum" problem. "Humbuckers" are named that for a reason.

Hi duckoi,

I sounds like you sorted out the noise issue as a grounding problem. But if you find that you still have some concerns about the unit, please feel to contact Fender directly, and we will be happy to assist further.

Best Regards,

Chicago-Dave

Tried with Humbuckers and Single Coil. Hum was the same
Tried outside, away from any devices like lights and fans, still had hum.

Only think that made it go away was plugging into USB port and then the XLR cable.

My theory is that there is a bad ground somewhere and the XLR and USB connections are completing the ground. when listening through head phones if you connect the xlr cable to the amp the hum stops, regardless of whether the amp is on or not.

Thanks

Duckoi

it does sound a lot like a missing ground on the outlet were you are connecting the floor.

What about friends, I'm from Mexico. 2 months ago I bought the Fender Mustang Floor, and I have exactly the same problem, I can not eliminates noise it produces, I'm thinking that is a factory error or something. Eh already checked cables, guitars, electric sources, amplifiers, XLR and eh could not solve. Update the firmware to version 1.4, and either. I request your help professional and Fender have already been resolve. : (: (

I will try to record a HD video on youtube to see what I'm talking about.

Thank you.

Translated google.

Hi omarsty,

It sounds like you have done a good bit of trouble shooting. The Fender Mustang Floor itself should not pose any grounding issues for you. In fact, the inclusion of balanced XLR outputs with a ground lift in addition to the 1/4 inch outputs should offer added low noise/balanced options.

So, I would suggest that if you have checked the unit in more than one location and tried to connect with the XLR outs, etc., you may want to go back to your local music store and ask that they contact the local/regional Fender distributor for further assistance. And please let us know if we can assist further. Thanks.

Best Regards,

I have experienced this as well (at times depending on the socket I am plugged into) and posted about it before. I wonder if you would still have the hum coming out of the 1/4" outputs. duckoi, what specific XLR to phono adapter did you use? I am using mine tomorrow in our Easter celebration church service and would love to know how to be sure that I won't have this issue.

Is this the kind of adapter you used (see link below)? If so, looks like you might have to use a direct box with the Floor in conjunction with that adapter????
