This is one of several ableton tutorials. Very helpful when getting started and learning about the software itself.
Make sure your plugins are set for fender asio and recognizes your mustang.(the mustang is your audio interface)

Recording is easiest in the arrangment view. highlight track one. make sure your monitoring is set to auto and you're getting a signal when you play a note.

Press both record buttons on the track itself and the one that is at the top. This arms the recording fuction and tells the program which track to record audio.

Press the play button. This should start a count in and will begin recording everything you play. Press stop when done.
Also note that the track you're recording into turns a faded red in color while recording.
Doubletap the stop button and push play. You should hear something.

Some obvious things to check - apologies if this sounds basic, but it's the best place to start.

- First, to point out that you can't use USB to play sound from your PC back through the Mustang amp. The USB audio interface on the Mustangs is one-way: out of the amp, into the PC. You need some other way to listen to audio from the PC. If you want to hear the PC sound through your Mustang, you can connect the headphones (or audio line-out) socket on your PC, to the aux-in socket on your Mustang.

- Can you get any sound at all from your PC, independent of Ableton, Mustang, etc. That is, if you just play an MP3 or WAV file with Windows Media Player (or your favourite audio app...), can you hear that?

- What are you using for audio output on your PC? Eg, does the PC have built-in speakers; are you using headphones; do you have the audio output from the PC connected to an external amp or active speakers, etc? Or are you trying to get the sound to playback through your Mustang?

- Are you sure that the audio file you recorded with Ableton definitely contains sound? It's possible (admittedly unlikely) that Ableton is showing you an input waveform on the screen but not actually saving it to a file. If you can hear the sound from another audio file played through Windows Media Player (or your favourite audio app...), what happens if you try and play the file that Ableton recorded, using the same app?

- If you're using Ableton to playback the sound, have you configured the output device correctly in Ableton? I think one of the Fender support articles on Ableton explains how to do this. Again, you can't use the ASIO/USB link to your Mustang for this, you need to use the PC's normal audio output (which as above you can connect back to the Mustang with an analogue cable to its aux-in socket).

Hi Guys,

First off, excellent input from scott-uk as usual. joaosilva, if you are still running into issues after you go through the ideas that scott-uk offers here, please feel free to contact us directly, and we can offer some additional one on one support. Setting up an ASIO driver can be a bit tricky at times. Thanks.
